What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Pepe's Wharf Restaurant is lauded for its stunning waterfront views and exceptional seafood, particularly clam chowder and oysters. Diners consistently praise the attentive and friendly staff, with many highlighting specific servers who enhance the dining experience. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few guests have noted occasional inconsistencies in seasoning or preparation, and one reviewer found the management to be unhelpful.
"We had such a great time stopping here with our group of 6 for lunch. I definitely recommend the fish and chips and the wedge salad. It was so fresh and tasty! The tartar sauce was SO good! I would also definitely recommend the oysters and large shrimp to start! I probably would not recommend the lobster rolls from here as it was pretty plane like lobster and the bread with light seasoning. That’s maybe just a personal preference thing though? I put their tartar sauce on it and it was VERY good. The slaw it comes with is also light and tasty!
Aside from that, our server, Michelle, was SO great and fun! The drinks were also so tasty! I would absolutely recommend a visit!"

"Pepe's has the best patio on the water. Ricardo was a fantastic server. Cocktail list is expansive and well crafted. The food is good, but could benefit from a touch more of seasoning and a treated bun for my taste."

"I love that they put much effort into assigning tables for you. I indicated “date” when I made my reservation and they put us in a spot where it was by the water, much quieter and right next to people who are more so couples too or smaller quieter groups. I saw that upstairs are much bigger groups, friends and louder drinking crowd and they seem to be having fun. Isn’t great if everyone in the restaurant is having fun without clashing with each other. I hate it when a place just randomly place customers on any available table or just try to get as much traffic as they can by rushing people or getting em in and out. I have experienced putting date on a reservation and a restaurant still placed us right next to a family of 8 with 6 kids. What in the world did they think that was a great idea? but Pepe’s did not do that to us. They meticulously put people in designated spots that have been well thought of. Im unsure who to compliment for this either manager or the host/hostess. But they did a great job!
The raw bar is top tier, cocktails taste good with decent buzz and great service. I highly recommend. But make sure to make a reservation to avoid wait times."

Restaurants where we could be happy with a great cocktail before or with an amazing dinner (some of which you’ll also see under restaurants below): happy hour at The Red Inn has become a little less informal during the pandemic (no more “show up, grab an Adirondack chair on the deck and order a few drinks”), but they still make a great cocktail and have delicious appetizers; Strangers and Saints which makes terrific cocktails in both their modern-rustic indoor and spacious outdoor terrace spaces along with shared plates and pizzas; the old-school bar at Jimmy’s Hideaway is intimate, cozy and welcoming; Pepe’s Wharf is a sprawling and beautifully decorated restaurant with a cute little bar and a smart living room/lounge/waiting area which would be a nice place for a pre-dinner cocktail (bonus points: in spite of a crowded room at dinner, the gimlet turned up exactly the way I like it). The Patio Grill, an ever-popular choice on Commercial Street that’s been revamped fairly recently with new owners and a fresh look, serves up delicious cocktails — some in mason jars (which my Southern husband always likes) — with lunch or dinner day and night. Also, Victor’s and Liz’s Cafe/Anybody’s Bar, both on Bradford rather than the busier Commercial Street make good cocktails, with Victor’s especially popular for its happy hour.
Dining places (existing and former)
Pepe’s Wharf may be the loveliest and most inviting of all of Provincetown’s little waterside shopping and dining enclaves — the Mews, Angels’ Landing, Designers’ Dock — thanks to its entrance portal, multiple levels, lush plantings and numerous corners, around which the passageway down to the restaurant and the beach keeps unfolding. It was developed in 1966 by Nils W. Berg (d 1994) and Eva (Kaye) Berg (1920-2009), just four years after Nicholas and Ray Wells had developed the Mews, at 359 Commercial Street. And the property is still in the hands of the Berg family, almost a half century later.

Can we thank the Lord for the relatively new ownership of Pepe’s?. I not so fondly recall the No Substitutions splayed across the top of the menu in 20-point type under the previous owners. So let’s count our blessings not only for the new more customer-friendly vibe but the updated (and beautiful) decor and the re-vamped menu.
