Reviews Summary

Olneyville New York System is a beloved Providence institution, celebrated for its iconic 'all the way' wieners and classic, no-frills atmosphere. Diners rave about the unique 'system' preparation and the nostalgic charm of the diner. While some appreciate the no-nonsense approach, a few find the service abrupt, but the overall consensus is that the delicious wieners and local favorites like coffee milk make it a must-visit.

"If you’re in Providence and haven’t tried Olneyville New York System, you’re seriously missing out. This place is legendary for a reason. The hot wieners “all the way” are exactly what comfort food should be — messy, flavorful, and totally satisfying. I didn’t know what to expect going in, but the combo of the meat sauce, onions, mustard, and that hit of celery salt was perfect.

The vibe is classic and no-frills, which honestly adds to the charm. It feels like stepping into a local treasure that hasn’t tried to be anything but what it is — and that’s a good thing. The staff was quick, friendly, and clearly proud of what they do."

"Nice place. We wanted to try this NY system, that dude was so friendly man! He greeted us and reassured us he would get to our order as we settled in. Gave us suggestions. Made us try a fries with vinegar and salt! Was awesome! The fries here are really good 😊 i would come back just to see that nice fellow. Stellar service 🤝give him a raise ✅"

"This spot definitely makes you feel like you're in NY. Atmosphere, food smells and design authentic NY! The food was good! They are known for their hotdogs and boy did they deliver! My friend snagged a dog and ate it so fast I couldn't snag a pic. My girls both got grilled cheese and said it was great! I got a Cheese steak only complaint was they didn't spread the meat. Otherwise delicious place to stop!"

Providence is full of fabulous fine dining, but one of the real institutions in the city is Olneyville New York System – a hot wiener shop that’s been around since the 1930s and stays open from 11 am until the early morning hours. This family-owned business began in Brooklyn in the 1920s, where the founders had a candy shop. A move to Olneyville Square in Rhode Island in the 1930s kicked off the restaurant, and since a big move to its current location in 1953, it’s been a Providence staple.
