Reviews Summary

Standard Baking Co. is a highly acclaimed bakery renowned for its artisanal breads and pastries made with organic ingredients. Diners rave about the unique flavors and high quality, making it a must-visit despite often long lines. While the selection can be limited later in the day, the overall experience is consistently delightful.

"This has easily become my favorite pastry shop in all of Portland. There are many amazing pastry shops in Portland and I have tried quite a few of them but Standard just seems a step above the rest with their choices and flavor combos. I love their Cardamom bun and their ham and cheese croissants are delicious. I also really love their pear tart that has marzipan in it. So scrumptious!!"

Karyn Whittemore

"Standard Baking Co. is a little gem in Portland 💛

From the moment you enter, the smell of freshly baked bread already wins you. Everything looks incredible, but the financier was something else... crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, with that almond flavor that leaves you in shock 😍
You can tell that they do everything with love and quality. The place has a calm vibe, perfect for a coffee and something sweet.
I would definitely come back just for that financier 🥹🔥"

Adriano Masjuan

"Standard Baking does not disappoint. We stayed in Portland for two days and I stopped on our first day based on reading that they won a James Beard award and the fantastic reviews. We enjoyed an almond croissant, morning bun with walnuts and a cranberry scone. All were amazing. We were so satisfied that we stopped by on our second day to get more pastry and loaded up on baguettes and a five grain bread to bring home. Thanks for everything! We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Portland."

5 Must-Visit Bakeries in Portland, Maine

Standard Baking Co. has been setting the standard for bread and pastry in Portland for three decades—and from the looks of things, they’re not slowing down anytime soon. Depending on when you drop by, you might find shelves laden with crusty loaves of naturally leavened bread, trays glistening with sticky morning buns, or piles of cookies whispering to you, begging to be added to your order. We stopped in late in the afternoon, which meant some favorites were already long gone—but it also meant we were able to waltz right in without waiting in the snaking queue.
