What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about the exceptional quality of seafood, particularly the lobster rolls and fresh oysters, and appreciate the cozy atmosphere. However, some reviews mention issues with inconsistent service, perceived high prices, and occasional food preparation inconsistencies, such as a watery chowder or overcooked fish.
"One of us was looking for a local restaurant for fresh fish and a good meal. This was it! It wasn't just yummy and filling, it was fresh. That makes all the difference, and it should. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to those near and far. The fish rank kept us occupied and entertained during our time in the main dining room. If you hit the timing just right, your experience can that much more sweeter. While some prefer a more livelier scene with the staff working their tails off, we tend to lean towards a relaxed/ chill/ less stressful/ more 1:1 talks with the staff members type of restaurant. Overall a great local restaurant."

"Fantastic!! I’m from out of town and I came here on a recommendation of the nearby hotel. I’m super impressed. I had oysters, tuna tartare, deviled eggs and lobster cocktail. All were amazing! The tuna tartar had a nice spicy kick to it! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Sat at the bar and had some great cocktails! Highly recommend this establishment. Cool salt water tank inside too."

"We started with clam chowder and crab cakes. Both were very good, the chowder was a little more watery than i like, but tasty. We all got the Twin Lazy Lobsters, they are market price which at the moment is $75 per plate. You get a good bit of lobster which is cooked perfectly and comes with plenty of butter. The potatoes were great and the green beans were excellent, they put some seasoning magic on those. We liked the atmosphere and our waiter was very nice and helpful. We just wish the lobster was slightly more affordable, but if you’re already spending money, spend a little more and stop by."

Is it the Back Bay Grill and Fore Street that are owned by the same people?. They are very popular and busy restaurants. They may be a bit pushy to get their table back if there is a cruise ship in town.
Portland Lunch Spots
It is always helpful to know which lunch spots are open for business during the interim hours of 2:30 and 5:30, and the Old Port Sea Grill understands that few late-afternoon snacks are more appropriate and satisfying than a dozen oysters on the half shell spiked with lemon juice and Tabasco sauce. The restaurant also serves one of the best lobster rolls in Maine, as well as a rich and smoky take on traditional New England-style clam chowder. Any time I have guests who require “You know, food that people from Maine eat,” I bring them here.
