The restaurant is so experienced with lobster that it even offers a wild-caught lobster cookbook. If you’re a little unsure about going all-in on a steamed lobster, you can also start out with their highly rated lobster roll.

My go-to spot in NYC to satisfy a lobster roll craving was always Luke’s Lobster!. While the chain started in Manhattan, the owner, Luke Holden, is a Cape Elizabeth native and open this first full-service restaurant in 2019. I still order the Seafood Roll Flight every time (it’s the best way to try a little bit of everything: lobster, crab, and shrimp).

Earlier in the day, while walking along the waterfront, we stumbled upon Luke’s Lobster, a classic Maine lobster shack – although we’d hardly call it a shack. We headed there for a late afternoon snack. Located right on the water’s edge, the second story had an incredible view of the harbor.

It’s probably the most popular lobster roll spot in Portland and it’s also situated right on the water. We didn’t end up coming here because we’ve had Luke’s in NYC (it is indeed damn good) and wanted to try something new. If you’ve never had Luke’s before, I’d highly recommend coming here.

Luke’s Lobster is another fairly new restaurant in Portland with a beautiful water view. It’s a great spot to eat lunch outside during summer and early fall. If the name “Luke’s Lobster” sounds familiar – perhaps you’ve seen one of their many other locations throughout the United States.

There are limited metered parking spots on the pier (please note meters are on 24/7). Downtown Portland hosts many parking facilities (click here for a map) as well as metered parking. Meters are free after 6 p.m.

It’s a corporate huge company who didnt even have a spot in maine til a few years ago - they started in NYC. It’s a below average lobster roll IMO, they just have a ton of money and a NYC marketing team.

Another closing that nobody saw coming, in fall 2019, the immensely popular Lolita closed its doors. So that left a new spot for L on this list, and it seems like a good place to put Luke’s Lobster.

Luke’s Lobster Portland Pier offers a fantastic experience you can’t miss. It’s located right on the waterfront in Portland, Maine. When I visited, I enjoyed the 360-degree views of the harbor.
