Reviews Summary
Le Pigeon offers a consistently stellar fine-dining experience, celebrated for its creative and impeccably executed French-inspired tasting menus. Guests rave about the exquisite flavors, artistic plating, and the intimate, lively atmosphere. While the pricing is on the higher side, many find it a worthwhile splurge for special occasions, though a few note that some dishes, while good, might lack a definitive 'wow' factor for the cost.
"Truly a five-star experience. Best described as casual, Portland fine dining at its best. French and French-inspired dishes perfectly paired with old-world wines. Each course of the tasting menu was unique, creative, mouth-watering, and superb. Definitely a must-visit if you live here or just curious about the best of Portland. BTW, atmosphere is laid back, post-hipster Portland cool. No jackets required."

"From start to finish, our anniversary dinner at Le Pigeon was absolutely phenomenal. Every single dish in the Chef’s Tasting Menu was a masterpiece – creative, well-balanced, and full of flavor. The Steak Tartare with mussels and apricot was unexpectedly delightful, the Shrimp & Grits was comforting with a unique twist, and that Wine Can Chicken with truffle? Wow.
We opted for the reserve wine pairing and it was totally worth it – each glass elevated the food beautifully. The service was impeccable: warm, knowledgeable, and perfectly paced. They even customized our menu with a sweet anniversary message. ❤️
Atmosphere was cozy yet stylish, and we loved sitting at the chef’s counter. Highly recommend for any special occasion – this was easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Portland."

Within a stone's throw of the rockin' Jupiter hotel on East Burnside, Le Pigeon boasts a genuine culinary star in 28-year-old Gabriel Rucker, who, along with his former sous chef Erik Van Kley, has created Portland's gold standard modern bistro. He's taken a bold, full-flavoured approach to the menu – which features staples like the foie gras caramel profiteroles and the rich beef-cheek bourguignon – and has attracted a loyal following: his patrons from overseas have included nose-to-tail pioneer Fergus Henderson from St John in London. The warm, intimate space, with its central open-plan kitchen, makes an ideal evening's retreat from Portland's winter drizzle.

Ask us who makes the best French food in Portland, and we’ll say Le Pigeon every time. At this Lower Burnside restaurant, traditional French technique transforms hyper-seasonal ingredients and integrates unexpected flavors like apricots and shaved truffles on Chinese-style shrimp toast and huitlacoche syrup drizzled on sweet corn panna cotta in ways that feel thoroughly modern. The $140, seven-course tasting menu (with a vegetarian option) is served in a rustic sage green space that has bare brick walls and a tiny open kitchen with pots and pans hanging above it.
