Downtown and BuckmanNowadays, it’s hard to think of a sandwich shop more iconic to Portland than Lardo. One of two Portland shops to make it to our best in the US list, the two Lardo shops are always busy, with lines out the door even before social distancing guidelines spaced everyone out. Here, it’s all about overindulgence, with rich, greasy pork and beef sandwiches going out alongside towering fried chicken sandwiches and pho-spiced French dips.

Few things make us as weak at the knees as the holy matrimony of sandwiches and beer. At Lardo, Rick Gencarelli's food-cart-turned-brick-and-mortar empire, this match made in heaven is the heart and soul of the pork-centric menu. Take your pick from a dozen supremely built sandwiches, meats stacked high, layered with pickles and sauces made in-house, and at least a dozen solid beers on tap.

What started as a food cart in SE Portland has expanded into a sandwich empire with four locations (including one in Las Vegas). Everything we've tried on the menu is fantastic, but we especially love the juicy porchetta sandwich and the dirty fries loaded with pork bits, Parmesan cheese, fresh herbs, and marinated peppers. Lardo is all about giving back to the Portland community, too.

Lardo, located in Portland, offers amazingly delicious food that will leave you wanting more. The menu features creative and unique options like the Pho’rench Dip and Korean sandwich with pork and kimchi, which are described as fabulous and genius.

They are everywhere, next to a McDonald’s in downtown and at sandwich-focused spots like Lardo and Double Dragon. There are little Viet tofu shops like Bui Natural Tofu and Thanh Son Tofu where you can pick up snacks and fresh tofu products. (If you’re really into tofu like I am, try Japanese O Ta Tofu.) Chinese/Vietnamese market-wise, check out Fubonn or Hong Phat.

After you’ve walked off some of those donuts, stop by Lardo for lunch. Their sandwiches are a little on the heavier side, as it is named “lardo” after all, but they are super delicious!. They typically have daily specials listed on their chalkboard. We got a chance to try a few things but their burger and Lardo fries were pretty amazing.

An extremely popular, one of a kind sandwich shop in the Hawthorne district. Lardo's originally started out as a food cart and has grown to three permanent locations in Portland one in the Hawthorne district, one in Downtown Portland on Washington Street, and one in northeast Portland. The sandwiches are enormous.

Next up is the Rhinestone Breakfast Burrito from the venerable Lardo. Lardo is an institution in Portland, offering up some of the best sandwiches in the city for the last 15 years. They just added this breakfast burrito to their regular menu (SE PDX location) a few months ago and it’s a real stunner!.

This may not be the best place to start your clean eating diet, but it is the best place in Portland for a good pork sandwich. Lardo started as a food cart, but now serves their pork-centric menu on Hawthrone street. The porchetta sandwich with gremolatta, caper mayo, arugula and parmesan is a must.

It’s impossible to leave this place hungry with their colossal sized sandwiches. In addition to stacked burgers and tasty hot fried chicken sandwiches, no trip to Lardo is complete with an order of dirty fries. The fries come mixed with chunks of bacon, marinated peppers, fresh herbs and Parmesan.

Speaking of world domination (see Bunk, above) Lardo is another skyrocketing conglomerate of sandwich shops, with multiple locations on three ends of the city. With addictive add-ons such as house kimchi, roasted poblanos, and olive tapenade, Lardo elevates the game for Portland’s gastronomes.

Lardo has some of the best sandwiches in Portland with lots of meat!. Their menu is simple; they serve classic sandwiches like ham, egg, and cheese as well as meatball sub. They even have a unique sandwich that includes Korean pork shoulder, pork belly, kimchi, cilantro, and chili mayo.

If you couldn’t piece it together by their name, Lardoserves up some serious fat!. Lardo’s is a spot that’s constantly on Portland Food Guides as one of the best restaurants in Portland. If you’re in the downtown area, Lardo is a great downtown Portland restaurant to consider eating at.

Fried food isn’t revolutionary by any stretch of the imagination, but Lardo is different. Folks come here for meaty pork-centric sandwiches and juicy burgers, which pair perfectly with the loaded fries. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland for a night out with friends.

(or anywhere else, for that matter) I always have a hard time deciding, but the last one I had, the Nashville hot chicken (with hot honey) was probably my favorite so far. But, the Pho French dip is a close second with its shaved beef and pho broth.

The PDX knows its sandwiches, and some of the best come from Rick Gencarelli’s Lardo. Gencarelli’s got a knack for creating crowd-pleasing, instagrammable food. His pasta spin-off Grassa, also makes this list at number 15.

For a memorable last meal in Portland, have lunch at Lardo, known for its delicious sandwiches. Afterward, take a leisurely walk in Washington Park and visit the International Rose Test Garden.

Lardo is the place to go for giant, succulent sandwiches that pack a lot of punch. It doesn't get better than the meatball banh mi on a nice crusty roll.
