Reviews Summary
J's Oyster is a beloved, no-frills seafood spot on the Portland Pier, lauded for its incredibly fresh oysters and delicious lobster dishes, especially the lobster roll. While many rave about the authentic atmosphere and friendly service, some diners have noted inconsistencies with shellfish preparation and occasional sandy texture in clams. The waterfront location adds to its charm, making it a classic choice for seafood lovers.
"Good lobster roll with fresh meat. The roll is about 5 oz for 35 bucks. Comes with potato chips. Served with melted butter, as well as mayo, on the side. The bakers dozen oysters were delicious. Good service with some local beers on tap. A homey place with a decent atmosphere. Good service. Would go again."

"While doing a little bit of walking and shopping around in Portland, we decided to stop and get a quick bite to eat. I had the haddock sandwich, my wife had the seafood casserole. Both of which were good, had a blueberry beer and we were off. We sat outside on the patio, right off the water’s edge. Food was decent, wish the menu was a little bit expanded for my liking, I really don’t eat, lobster, oysters, or clams. Limited to basically fish. But don’t let that stop you, the food was good, rather quick seeing our parking was expiring shortly. Another stop that was worth a visit. Thanks."

"We had a wonderful experience here. We ordered two orders of oysters and tried soft shelled clams for the first time. The waitress took her time to show us how to prepare the soft shelled clams so we could properly eat them which was a great touch to our trip!
I would say the oysters are one of the best deals you can get in the area. It's $30 for 13 when most places are charging $3-$5 per oyster. They are relatively small in size but taste delicious."

Kick off your meal with a cheap beer and an order of steamers (a local delicacy of soft-shell clams that the friendly staff will happily show you how to clean and eat), then move along to the lobster roll.
