Reviews Summary

Diners consistently praise Gado Gado for its unique and flavorful Dutch-Indonesian cuisine, especially the extensive 'Rice Table' experience. The vibrant atmosphere and creative cocktails also receive high marks. Some guests note that individual dish portions can be small, and occasionally the tasting menu might have overlapping flavors, but overall satisfaction remains high.

"Such a unique experience, and everything I tried was something I had not tried before, which I absolutely loved!

We did the Rice Table, which was $89 per person. The chicken satay, roti and babi kecap were standouts, but everything on the menu was delicious and unique. Special mention to the house pickles and the Sambal sauces which were also delicious and added an extra dimension of flavor to everything on the table

The drinks were also interesting, and their Cocktail for a Cause is a neat addition to the menu.

Absolutely worth a visit! If you're not familiar with the dishes or the menu, I would also say to go for one of their pre-set menus since there is so much variety on their al-a-cart menu.

Bonus points for a very fun bathroom vibe"

"Fab. Cool menu, we did the tasting menu and it was a lot of food for two of us. I loved going through the whole thing and now I have ideas of the clear winners for next time! Only minus is that a couple of the mains were very similar in flavor and I don’t think it’s the strongest tasting menu pairing. They were all delicious though. Apps were insane, drinks were fantastic. Overall super fun."

"We were visiting from our of town. My cousin from Portland recommended Gado Gado. We had the rice plate set meal. Food was outstanding. Service and atmosphere were terrific. The Zucchini Corn Fritters and the Roti were particularly excellent, but everything was very, very good. Couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly."

The 40 best restaurants in Portland you need to try

After struggling to rein in its creativity early on, the Hollywood neighborhood favorite regrouped post-pandemic with a new specialty, rijsttafel — literally “rice table” — a Dutch-Indonesian dining format where lots of little dishes, many involving rice, land at the table at once. A late summer meal here included one siu mai, a panipuri puff, a single satay skewer and a bowl of shallot-topped rice, among other tasty small bites, plus three sambals, each spicier than that last. Two curries — a bagna cauda-esque coconut-clam and a red with blistered cherry tomatoes — each made a strong argument for ordering another round of the wonderfully flaky roti for dipping.
