Thainy Boda is a food truck from the owners of the previously mentioned Green Elephant. The vegan-friendly food truck in Portland serves up a variety of eats like Brussels sprouts that are fried and tossed in a sweet and savory sauce (we stalk the schedule for this snack alone), as well as fried spring rolls served with mushroom or sweet chili sauce. For fill-you-up items go with the heavier dishes like the red curry made with zucchini, red and green bell peppers, onions, eggplant, string beans, cauliflower and tofu.

Don’t leave without trying their seasonal vegetarian curry, the Thai Sticky Rice Ball, and the Woon-Sen Pad Thai.

Though we haven’t dined in at Boda yet, it quickly became a favorite spot for Thai takeout in Portland. My personal litmus test for any Thai restaurant is their Khao Soi – my all-time favorite dish – and Boda’s version does not disappoint. Rich, flavorful, and generously spiced, it hits all the right notes.

The dining room is trendy, they have a dinner and late night menu – and both have plenty of clearly-marked gluten-free options. From quail eggs to oysters to brussels sprouts for starters, grilled squid to scallops to tofu skewers for mains, you won’t go hungry. And they’re super careful in the kitchen.

Over in Longfellow Square, you’ll find a cozy place called Boda, which also does a great job of marking the vegan menu items: two great entrees and a few small plates. Just save room for coconut sticky rice for dessert.

The night we were supposed to go to Vinland, we ended up heading to Boda for an early dinner. They don’t take reservations, and open at 5 - we stepped in a few minutes later, and the tables were already full!
