Reviews Summary

Bayside American Cafe is a beloved Portland institution praised for its generous portions and creative brunch dishes, especially its unique takes on Eggs Benedict and fluffy pancakes. While many rave about the friendly service and delicious food, some reviews mention issues with dish cleanliness and inconsistent preparation, such as undercooked bacon or soggy waffles.

"Loved this place! Probably one of my favorite breakfast places I went to while I was here. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, and the food was absolutely delicious. Even the coffee was amazing. Nikko our server, did a fantastic job. Even somehow pronounced my last name right. My girl friend got the blueberry French toast. The serving size was a lot. She didn't even finish the 1 slice. I got the Tuscany scramble with steak bits, and a bagel. The scramble was full of flavor and the bagel was on another level too. Their homemade habenero hot sauce was very good as well. I wanted to take the bottle home with me, considered doing a shot of it before I left.
Would highly recommend giving this place a try."

Zachary Mroczkowski

"We had a great experience here. The breakfast cocktails were made well. The carrot cake pancake was melt in your mouth. The home fries were seasoned just right. Every plate coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. Busy on a Sunday morning about a 20 minute wait but with food this good it makes sense."

"I have lived in Portland for about eight years, and I’ve never felt more welcome by the staff at any restaurant. Every team member we spoke to went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable and at home. My partner and I sat on their dog-friendly patio with our pup—no issues at all—and they even brought over a water bowl for her!

The cherry on top was that the food was amazing. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict, and my partner got the Lemon Blueberry French Toast. Both were incredible! I could not recommend this place enough. If you want a great atmosphere, delicious food, and exceptional service, Bayside American Café is the place to be."

Top Spots for Breakfast in Portland, Maine

Known and loved for years as Bintliff’s, this Bayside neighborhood institution changed its name in 2015 while keeping a firm hold on its reputation as a premier breakfast/brunch spot. Overseen by husband-wife team Joe and Diane Catoggio, who bought the place in 2003, Bayside American Café prides itself on taking breakfast foods to the next level (one recent special: buttermilk pancakes topped with raspberry and blackberry compote and spiced white chocolate pearls) and spotlighting local offerings when possible. The maple syrup hails from Skowhegan’s Strawberry Hill Farms, for instance, while the coffee is from Portland’s Coffee by Design — which even created an exclusive Bayside blend.
