Reviews Summary

Vernick Food & Drink is celebrated for its exceptional upscale New American cuisine, particularly its seafood dishes and inventive 'on toast' options. Diners rave about the impeccable service, sophisticated ambiance, and unique experiences like the chef's counter. While overwhelmingly positive, some minor order mix-ups have been noted, but service recovery is swift and accommodating.

"No bad food and no wrong choices !! The food and drinks were just phenomenal. The chef’s complimentary was such a nice generous touch of hospitality.

If you are a couple / dates that have few words to each other, I recommend a seat at the chef’s kitchen counter (only 6 available).
Just like the tv show “The Bear” you get to see, to feel the intensity in prepping every dishes PERFECTLY before it landed on your table.

And a shout out to the Old Fashion concoction. One of the best OF I had and I meant it ( the other was from JUA new york)

Well done to everyone from BOH to FOH !!

Highly recommend X2 !!"

"I enjoyed my experience with Vernick last night. It was my first time dinning there and I must say the food was delish! The hospitality was on point . Even with a mix up regarding the food order/communication. Our lovely host/server was very accommodating to say the least. Thank you Vernick for the hospitality! I’d love to come back again!"

Candace Whaley

"An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Sitting at the counter was a highlight — watching the chefs work with precision and grace was a show in itself. The service was warm, attentive, and thoughtful. Every dish impressed, from the oysters and blue crab to the thai spiced lamb chops and pasta special. We were even surprised with a complimentary serving of the grilled shrimp. The blueberry pie was the perfect ending — just sweet enough with a beautifully flaky crust and basil ice cream on top. A standout meal in every way."

Restaurants in Philadelphia

South Jersey native, and James Beard-award winning chef, Greg Vernick spent the bulk of his career opening restaurants around the world for Jean-Georges Vongerichten. When he and his wife, Julie, wanted to do their own place, they came back to the Delaware Valley and made waves with their bustling (but intimate) modern American restaurant whose ever-changing menu features delicious things on toast (avocado, foie gras, Maryland crab), Asian influences, and large-format proteins (whole chicken or rack of lamb) cooked in a wood-burning oven. Expect it all rendered in thoughtful, joyful expressions, and served by a vivacious staff.

No matter what you order at Vernick, you can trust that it will be excellent,” said Irene Levy Baker, author of 100 Things To Do In Philadelphia Before You Die. “The team of managers and servers are quite knowledgeable and helpful while still respecting your privacy.”. You’ll never look at toast the same way after trying some of the flavor combos -- like broccoli & bacon jam or fromage blanc & kumquats -- on Vernick’s menu.

The Fancy Dinner Guide - Philadelphia

Vernick is a Rittenhouse institution and a great choice for a special occasion, so reservations typically book up well in advance. But if you work or live nearby, you’ll want to know that it’s actually pretty easy to get a table if you show up early enough. The service is exceptional and the seasonal American food is consistently good, so start with the crab toast and then move to that glorious roast chicken.

A must for any celebration or special outing, Vernick Food & Drink is an upscale concept from James Beard Award-winning chef Greg Vernick. Spring for the six-course tasting menu served in the Vernick Wine “jewel-box” dining room, or choose your own à la carte adventure with “on toast” options such as beef tenderloin tartare with horseradish; raw dishes, including fluke ceviche with pineapple and coconut; and large plates like grilled black sea bass with tender leeks, sauce amandine and sherry gastrique.

The best gluten-free restaurants in Philadelphia

At least 90% of the menu at Greg Vernick’s modern seafood hall in the Comcast Tech Center can be made gluten-free, from the endive salad with salmon — my prime power lunch pick — to ceviches or the black bass with lemony celery root and capers, which can be pan-roasted instead of grilled. The Dover sole splurge for two can also be dusted in rice flour (in lieu of Wondra) before it’s carved with tableside pomp. The chef’s famous whole wood-roasted chicken can also be cooked GF at the original Vernick Food & Drink with two days’ notice (to replace soy in the brine with tamari).

The Best Places to Drink Wine in Philadelphia

Greg Vernick earned 2017 “Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic” honors from the James Beard Foundation for his innovative cooking, splitting the difference between homey familiarity and flawless execution. But his restaurant’s equally excellent wine and cocktail programs have also contributed greatly to its reputation as a bona fide destination. Smart, dialed-in and constantly evolving, wine director Ray Gazdzinski’s list reflects a preference for terroir-driven wines from small producers and service that’s elegant yet casual.

Best American Restaurant

The second most impressive thing about chef Greg Vernick's eponymous restaurant is that it started great and has, over the years, only gotten better -- more confident, more daring, more a part of the neighborhood. The most impressive thing, of course, remains the kitchen's light touch with the small plates (egg fettuccine with morels! Sweet pea ravioli with braised rabbit!) and those awesome toasts, served across the counter of the open kitchen in the cozy back room.
