Reviews Summary

Diners consistently praise a.kitchen+bar for its exceptional service, creative culinary offerings, and impressive beverage program. The intimate ambiance and knowledgeable staff create a memorable dining experience, though some find it a bit noisy at peak times. The inventive small plates and well-curated wine list are frequent highlights, making it a go-to spot for many Philadelphians.

"I came here for a casual dinner with some coworkers and ordered the Ricotta Rosette with a side of chicken, along with the Baked Top Neck Clams. Everything tasted absolutely amazing. The server was very attentive, and the ambiance was lovely—a very quiet and intimate setting."

"Enjoyed a lovely casual late brunch and cocktails seated in the corner of their bar area. The cocktails were great; service was swift and accommodating; and we shared several items off the Sunday Brunch menu. We started with an order of the Amalia Oysters on the half shell. They were perfectly plump, icy cold, sweet little morsels served with a very unique strawberry gazpacho mignonette. We ended up ordering a second round to close our meal because they were such a treat. As a tourist, I am quite sure the golden beet salad featured in my attached photo, will haunt me with cravings for years to come. They were perfectly roasted and tossed in a refreshing citrus dressing with a fresh dill yogurt. I’m salivating just recalling the experience now. The chickpea panisse was an explosion of flavor and the curator creatively produced a dish I don’t think I will find on too many other menus in my future. Our final bite was the Chicken Liver Toast, which like the rest of the menu, used ingredients in a very unique palatable manner. The toast was sturdy, crispy, and soft all at the same time. The dish used peanut butter in a manner that was subtle and made me want to rethink how I use the household spread in my own repertoire. I was inspired by all of their dishes, and will hopefully return if I find myself back in Philadelphia. I highly recommend to anyone in search of a creative, satisfying, high quality meal. And we loved our bartender! Thank you for a wonderful experience."

"Had an amazing birthday dinner at a.kitchen. The cocktails and wine were great and the service was spot on. The food was super fresh and full of flavor. We tried the French puff cheese pastries (gougères), whipped tofu, ricotta rosette, and the wagyu bavette steak—everything was excellent. Definitely recommend."

The Best Restaurants in Philadelphia

On Sunday afternoons at this restaurant, you might find perfect French omelets, plates of chickpea panisse and some of Philadelphia’s best chefs eating lunch on their day off. Across from Rittenhouse Square, this all-day restaurant has been open since 2011, quietly maintaining an essential place in the local dining scene thanks in part to the efforts of the chef, Eli Collins. His longstanding relationships with the region’s farmers are a boon to the menu, reflected in dishes like crispy oyster mushrooms grown in nearby Kennett Square, and chicken liver toast topped with red wine-preserved cherries he picks up from the farmers’ market.

Smoke, coal, fire, and ash create a through line for the menu at a.kitchen, on the ground floor of the AKA Hotel. Attired in blond wood and Carrara marble, it looks like a spa in the Italian Alps, and its Rittenhouse address guarantees a scene, but the recent involvement of High Street Hospitality (Fork, High Street on Market) has transformed it into a "serious restaurant" with an ace sommelier and a steak tartare that cannot be missed.

Philly's 10 Best Wine Bars

When I put a record on, as opposed to music on my phone, I tend to listen a little bit more seriously,” A.Kitchen beverage and service director Frank Kinyon tells us. “That level of concentration is something you can also apply to wine.” A.Bar next door rightfully gets attention for its craft cocktails and selection of low-intervention wines, but don’t sleep on A.Kitchen’s monthly Vine-yl Nights, at which Kinyon invites a resident expert for a wine-list takeover and full sides of vinyl to pair. To add to the experience, chef Eli Collins makes one-night-only snacks, with an on-theme “A-Side” and “B-Side” menu.
