Reviews Summary
Ramen Shop is lauded for its innovative and flavorful ramen, creative dishes, and a moody, romantic ambiance, making it a standout dining destination. While many praise the high-quality, in-house ingredients and excellent beverage selection, some find the prices to be on the higher side for the portion sizes, and occasionally a specific ramen broth can be polarizing.
"How have I lived my life up until now without this place? Great atmosphere, check. Amazing drinks, check. Interesting and inventive ramen, check. This is the quintessential date night spot, I cannot recommend it highly enough."

"We were excited to try new restaurants. Walking in, we were welcomed and vibe was great. The food menu was limited so I was expecting each dishes to be amazing…oh boy!! We ordered 4 items. Pickles cabbage…no other aromatic other than vinegar. I see passed menu had different types of pickle vegetables but we were served with only cabbage. Second, vegetable tempura…it was crunchy with light batter…good. Third, tuna sashimi, this was delicious…fresh and other components enhance the dish. Lastly, the spicy garlic miso ramen for $28! The broth was flavorful with a heavy chard/ burnt note, it was mediocre comparing to other great ramen around the Bay. On a good note, service was excellent! This is one restaurant in all my years of eating out will be remembered as a huge disappointment >.< (sorry photos was great). P.S. Originally, I had posted 1 star but I don’t like disagreeing with the establishment regarding their interpretation of ramen. It’s just not my cup of tea but could be someone else’s."

A Day Trip to Oakland's Coolest Neighborhoods
It’s been a long and delightful day, wandering, tasting and exploring, and now you’re probably ready for a nice cocktail and an early dinner. Just head north on College two blocks to Ramen Shop for the Bay Area’s best ramen (and best fried rice and donburi, too!) But be careful — it’s easy to pass it by since the signage is quite subtle: look on the east side of the street just north of Jules Thin Crust. It’s not a bad idea to arrive a little early to Ramen Shop (they open at 5 p.m. on weekdays and 4 p.m. on weekends), as they don’t take reservations and this place is very popular!

Mind Blown.” “Mouthgasm.” Such words don’t come easily from Ramen lovers on Yelp, but since Ramen Shop (pictured top) opened in late 2012, the Rockridge spot has become the gold standard for ramen in the East Bay. Whether it’s the Chez Panisse pedigree, the Japanese noodle machine or the expertly paired cocktails, these guys are doing something right, as evident by the long lines to eat there. In August, it was reported that they’re taking over the former luggage shop next door, and expanding both the dining and bar space.

And if you’re wondering, we didn’t find a soul who doesn’t adore the ramen made by former Chez Panisse chefs at the Ramen Shop on Oakland’s College Avenue. Walt French, a Wagner opera enthusiast, gave us thumbs up on the shop’s “so incredibly rich” miso ramen, adding that the place is “open late, so we culture vultures can get a bite after an evening of Das Rheingold—tho not Götterdämmerung.” ♦
