Reviews Summary

Pomet is celebrated for its authentic farm-to-table ethos, showcasing fresh, locally sourced ingredients in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Diners rave about unique dishes like Korean fried duck and 'ugly mushroom' pasta, making it ideal for special occasions. However, some reviews mention small portion sizes and inconsistent service, with one diner noting the restaurant has shifted to a pizza-only format, which deviates from its original concept.

"Lovely experience! I went by myself to enjoy a delicious meal and was not disappointed. Staff were very friendly, informative, and attentive and made me feel very welcome. Crispy duck leg starter was crispy skin on the exterior velvety meat on the inside. Nice sweet and a little spicy coating. A little too sweet for me. It almost felt like an entrée eating it by myself. Would have been perfect to share. Got the short rib which came with lettuce and a very spicy mustard on the side to make little lettuce wraps. Meat seemed a little dry, but tender, and the fat portion cooked perfectly so that it melted in the mouth. This also would have been perfect to share. Seems like most of their plates are oriented that way, small sharing plates. Next time I'll bring more people with me so I can sample more of this thoughtfully and expertly prepared food. Atmosphere feels elegant but comfortable and warm. Loved every bit!"

Good Taste: An actual farm-to-table restaurant in Oakland

Last week, I was invited to have dinner at Pomet (4029 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland), a new, in all actuality farm-to-table restaurant that opened on March 16, from K&J Orchards owner and second-generation farmer Aomboon Deasy. With all of the frequency that this phrase is thrown around in the Bay Area, how wonderful it is to see an actual farmer open what I’m sure will be one of the more notable restaurants of the year. Pomet features produce from K&J Orchards as well as other local farms and ranches.

Where to Find Michelin-Rated Dining in the Greater Bay Area

Dedicated to farm-to-table ingredients and highlighting the nuances of local produce, Pomet (French for “orchard”) earned its Michelin green star in 2023. Proprietor Aomboon Deasy also works in farming as an owner of K&J Orchards, and Chef Alan Hsu takes Pomet’s agricultural roots seriously when crafting the restaurant’s artful menu — even the wood fire ovens use recycled logs. And after a meal of sustainably sourced meat and “ugly mushroom” pasta, guests receive a complimentary slice of fruit.
