Since 1945, O’Brien’s (“O’Bs,” as locals often say) has been welcoming folks to sit back, relax, sip a beer and enjoy some food that satisfies. O’Bs has grown exponentially since it opened nearly eight decades ago, most significantly with front patio that extends the entire length of the restaurant along Newport’s bustling lower Thames Street.

It has a giant outdoor patio, with a big fountain in the middle filled with plastic fish, toys, and play fishing poles that the kids can play with!. It kept them busy the whole time we waited for our food, and even after you eat, if you want to enjoy a drink or two!. (You can bring your dogs here too if you’ve brought them along!)

Our first day’s walk came to an abrupt halt at O’Brien’s, a pub on Lower Thames with a large outdoor patio. Little kids ran around a large stone fountain in the center, harvesting plastic ducks and fish with toy crab nets. Nearby, their parents relaxed with their happy hour pints.

Located near the end of Thames Street, this is the place to stop for bar food after shopping and sightseeing. The outdoor patio is routinely filled with adults, kids, dogs, and beers. It’s famous for its mudslides, which is a very popular drink in Rhode Island in the summer.

A longtime local favorite, O’Briens on Thames Street welcomes leashed pups on their patio during warmer months when outdoor dining is available. It’s known for being dog-friendly and delicious, with a fun, friendly vibe and its very own dog menu guaranteed to make tails wag.

When I was searching for a dog-friendly Rhode Island restaurant, I knew O’Brien’s Pub had to be our spot. When the first sentence on their website starts out by saying, “Dog-Friendly O’Brien’s Pub…” I knew they would embrace Dexter. And boy, did they deliver on everything!

Located right in the middle of all the action on lower Thames Street. O'Brien's Pub has one of the best outdoor patios in all of Newport (pet-friendly too). This is a great spot for people-watching as you enjoy your lunch and live entertainment during the summer months.

This is a great place to grab a drink and watch some sports!. The best thing about O’Brian’s is that you can bring your dog!!!. What is better then eating, drinking and playing with cute little puppies… I can answer that for you already.
