Situated on Long Wharf State Pier, the Newport Lobster Shack is an experience unlike any other on this list. This is a definitely different vibe to those earlier on our list of the best lobster rolls in Newport, but this doesn’t diminish the quality at all.

Bite into the city’s best lobster roll Thursdays through Mondays at this rustic shack and food truck on Long Wharf, Newport’s last working fish pier. The shack is supplied by the Newport Lobster Shack fishermen’s co-op, owned by locals who work in the industry. Guests can choose live lobsters, crabs, and conch at the market to bring home (they’ll steam lobsters on site) or sit at picnic tables and feast on the fruits of the sea while surrounded by working boats.

This place is literally a shack on a dock that sells the freshly caught seafood that’s coming off the fishing boats. You can eat fresh lobsters right there on a picnic bench, take a lobster roll to go, or bring seafood home with you (they can pack it so that it can travel for up to 24 hrs). Runners up are Lobster Bar and Midtown Oyster Bar but honestly I have a lot more lobster rolls to try this summer before I can make any final decisions on a winner.

The Newport Lobster Shack is a casual dockside joint that offers fresh lobster, rolls and bisques/chowders. They offer take-out and limited outdoor picnic table seating. I did not personally dine here, but my friends grabbed a lobster roll with 6 oz of meat ($29) and a clam chowder ($7), and said everything was delicious!

Newport Lobster Shack - right by the Newport Shipyard is the Lobster Shack, a place where you can order lobster rolls from a food truck or buy lobsters to go. At $9.95 a pound, these fresh-caught lobsters are the best steal you'll find on Newport (or anywhere, really!).

Next time you’re craving a lobster roll, make your way to Newport Lobster Shack. All of its seafood is made from the freshest ingredients, caught by local fishermen. The waterside shack serves both a small and a large lobster roll, offered at market price.

The Newport Lobster Shack is special as they only serve what they catch. So, if freshness is at the top of your “must-haves” when it comes to lobster rolls, this is easily the best spot for you. They start with a super fresh, toasted and buttered roll.

So we actually tried to go to grab a lobster roll here (I have a love affair with New England lobster rolls), BUT they weren’t open yet. I believe they will be opening up in the next couple weeks, but you bet I will be back to try one of these rolls!!

If you’re looking for mid priced seafood, there are a ton in Newport County. If you’re looking for something a bit more upscale, I recently had some of the best salmon I’ve ever had at Hemenway’s in Providence.

Just a half-mile from downtown, at the north end of the tourist wharves, lives The Newport Lobster Shack. It’s really, truly, a shack, but don’t let that fool you!. This place is the real deal.

The only thing lacking IMO is good pizza and good casual Italian. (There is a good Italian restaurant but it's not for kids. It's in a small house and better for couples.)

Forty 1 North —Another waterfront spot, perfect for a summer day or night overlooking some of Newport's fanciest boats. I love the outdoor bar for lunch and a cocktail.
