What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Local Ocean Seafoods is celebrated for its exceptionally fresh, high-quality seafood and stunning bay views, with many hailing it as a top destination on the Oregon coast. Diners rave about signature dishes like the Fishwives Stew and crab cakes, as well as the creative cocktails. However, some patrons find the portions small for the price, and there's a mention of an inauthentic management veneer.
"This is a place that is amazing! My wife’s drink was excellent and our service was great. The food was absolutely the best! The deviled eggs were so good, salmon so fresh and the stew was tasty!! We sat on the open air patio which is on the main floor…was really relaxing. If you are in Newport, Oregon you need to stop here!"

"I travelled 3 hours from Portland just to sample this restaurant. I was not disappointed. I had the garden Salad and the famous Fishwives Stew, It was sublime, and filled with a beautiful medley of fish and shellfish in a rich Ciappino Broth. I can’t recommend this dish highly enough. Absolutely delicious.. The restaurant has a busy, bustling vibe, bright and airy. The staff all have genuine smiles, and I’m sure they are happy to work here. I’ll definitely visit again for dinner.
Another huge plus. It’s directly opposite one of Newports busy wharf’s where the famous Newport Sea-lions come out to laze in the sun."

"a bit pricey, especially for the small portions, but the food was delicious! servers were kind and the hostess was able to get us in immediately during a rush! will definitely come back at some point. cocktails were also good."

Find a Wild Writer’s Retreat and ‘The Ring’ Vibes in Newport, Oregon
On the off chance that you would like to leave the hotel, consider dinner at Local Ocean, a lightly swanky restaurant/seafood market at the edge of the Bayfront District, and take in views of the Yaquina Bay Bridge and the ships that caught your meal. An assortment of oysters (with a helpful flavor guide) awaits, plus a robust cocktail list and broad range of classic, well-prepared entrees. (Do not listen to the voice in your head telling you you “don't need the espresso and candied orange flan.”) For a slightly more down-home seafood experience just across the bay, there's the long-standing South Beach Fish Market, which slings so-fresh-it-remembers-swimming aquatic fodder.

20 reasons to love Newport, funky capital of the Oregon coast
I have a lot of good things to say about Local Ocean, but I'll let The Oregonian food critic Michael Russel take this one: "The fried fish is great, the fried oysters are even better, and the cioppino-esque Fishwives Stew comes with two of almost everything from the accompanying seafood market's cold case: crab, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams and fish in garlic herb tomato broth. When I first tried it six years ago, I went back the next day and ordered it again.

Newport, Oregon with Kids
Pick up a really fresh cut of fish at the informal, casual Local Ocean Seafoods – you’ll see just-caught seafood behind the fish-market counter as you enter, and the restaurant is right across from the fishing boat “parking lot,” as my son called the pier. With so many options on the salad, soup, sandwiches and big-plate menus it can be hard to pick just one item per person. I recommend ordering a diverse selection so you can try more dishes.
