I have a lot of good things to say about Local Ocean, but I'll let The Oregonian food critic Michael Russel take this one: "The fried fish is great, the fried oysters are even better, and the cioppino-esque Fishwives Stew comes with two of almost everything from the accompanying seafood market's cold case: crab, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams and fish in garlic herb tomato broth. When I first tried it six years ago, I went back the next day and ordered it again.

So we decided to head to Local Oceans Seafood for a delicious dinner on the Oregon Coast. And boy are we glad we decided to splurge at this place.

Both restaurant and fish market, Local Ocean has floor-to-ceiling windows to afford the patrons of its open kitchen and a beautiful view. An example of one of their many creative dishes is the pan fried oysters with pork belly, spinach, apples, Korean bean paste, albacore and mushroom dashi!

Both simple and sophisticated, this glass-fronted restaurant on the Bayfront serves fish and seafood so fresh that you can ask what boat it just came in on. The front opens out onto the sidewalk for summer dining, otherwise it’s small tables in the colorful, streetside dining room…

Local Ocean Seafoods is the number one place to eat in Newport, quite literally. The water and bridge views are crazy beautiful, and the food sticks with the local theme. Roasted garlic Dungeness crab soup and the tuna mignon are both impeccably prepared.

Very expensive for what we received, a lot of it tasted like imitation, not the real thing. We got the fisherman's catch roll as well as the gluten-free halibut. Needless to say, we're not impressed with the food or the amount we paid for it.

Local Ocean is probably my favorite seafood restaurant in Newport. The food is incredibly fresh (most of the catch comes directly from the boats that dock just across the street!). The restaurant works directly with roughly 50 fishermen.

Finally, no trip to Newport is complete without a meal at Local Ocean Seafoods. This restaurant has the best seafood around and is a local favorite. The seafood restaurants in the area are known for fresh, ocean-to-table dishes.

I don't know how it compares to what's available since it's the only place I ate during the one day I spent there, but it had top-restaurant-quality fish at really good prices; highly recommended.
