There are also lots of restaurants in town where you can sit outside with your dog including Diego’s, Perro Salado, The Pearl outside, Malt, Fifth Element, and Corner Cafe. There are leash laws on the island and the beaches are very strict about dogs in the summer so it’s almost not worth it to go there from Memorial Day to Labor Day because they do issue tickets and they’re $100. But there’s no shortage of gorgeous and fun places to go with your furry friend, and they’ll be so tired after a day of exploring you can leave them in a cozy bed of their own at the Vanderbilt Grace!

Diego’s is a popular restaurant in the heart of downtown Newport serving up west coast-style Mexican food & a variety of drinks. This hip eatery is one of my favorites to dine at while in Newport as the vibe is laid-back, the food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable!. Diego’s turns out tasty burritos ($15+), tacos ($14-$17), quesadillas ($15), dinner plates ($23-$34), appetizers to share ($11.50-$17+), guac, and more!

Diego’s occupies a perfect location in the middle of the action on Bowen’s Wharf. The vibe is punk-rock meets Baja cantina, but the kids’ list keeps things mild with burritos, quesadillas, and nachos built around rice, beans, and grilled chicken. Parents dig into shrimp tacos or mezcal cocktails, and when attention spans fade, the wharf’s souvenir kiosks and boat docks sit just outside the door.

While you can enjoy the Diego’s signature Braker’s Guac at their location in Newport and their bodega in Middletown, the Bowen’s Wharf restaurant's menu also features a Guac Del Día, developed by the chef. This is without a doubt a fan favorite for most people that you talk to in Newport. Aside from being centrally located and right by the water, everyone has nothing but great things to say about Diego’s, myself included. I’ve only ever sat outside but the interior of Diego’s is hip and modern and their menu is something that we need to go ahead and have a serious conversation about.

When it comes to delicious yet affordable Mexican fare, Diego’s is one of the top picks in town. Featuring quirky and original décor and staffed by friendly and helpful waiters, it’s an ever-popular spot for lunch or dinner – as well as for weekend brunches. The menu contains variations of all your Mexican favorites such as nachos, tacos, burritos and more.

Then look no further than Diego’s for an amazing brunch experience. Located on Bowen’s Wharf in the heart of downtown Newport, this funky Mexican joint does breakfast on weekends only, but man do they do it right!. Near First Beach, you’ll find Diego’s second location which opened in 2018. Compared to Diego’s in downtown Newport, the Barrio Cantina has more space and feels more casual.
