What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Una Pizza Napoletana is lauded for its world-class Neapolitan pizza, featuring a uniquely delicious crust and high-quality ingredients. Diners rave about the authentic flavors and attentive service, though some note that the pizza can take time to arrive and topping portions might be smaller than anticipated. The restaurant's dedication to tradition and the mastery of its pizzaiolo are consistently praised.
"I liked the pizza—actually, I loved the pizza! The menu is small but well-curated, focusing on quality over quantity. Service was excellent, and they offer a great selection of wines that pair beautifully with both the appetizers and the pizza. The ambiance is lively and fun, making it a great spot for a casual night out.
My only suggestion? It would be great if they cut the pizza or provided a pizza cutter—using regular utensils made it a bit messy. But would I go back? Absolutely!"

"Incredible pizza. Worth the wait. In the top 3 NYC Neapolitan without question, if not #1. Fluffy and flavorful. Bold yet delicate. I’ll dream of this pizza.
Waited in line around 3:45, got a late reservation for later that night around 9. About half of the 40 person line may have gotten in the same day."

"Stellar sauce and dough flavor, but value and balance missed.
I'm a big fan of Neapolitan pizza, but this pie at Una Pizza Napoletana didn't quite land for me. At $6 per topping, portions felt light, my margherita with hot peppers had maybe 4-5 small pieces. Some spots were more burnt than pleasantly blistered, and the sauce/cheese-to-crust ratio felt off, leaving bites a bit dry.
That said, the tomato sauce was excellent and the dough had great flavor but I just wished for a crisper bake. Bottom line: strong fundamentals, but topping portions, bake consistency, and price to value could be better."

Six NYC pizzerias just won at the 2025 Best Pizza Awards
Though the top three was, unsurprisingly, dominated by Italian pizzaiolos—Francesco Martucci of I Masanielli, Franco Pepe of Pepe in Grani and Gabriele Bonci of Pizzarium in Rome—this year's tasty selection also spotlighted NYC chefs like Anthony Mangieri of Una Pizza Napoletana (who previously appeared in the 2023 and 2024 installments, but hit a high of No. 17 this year), Mark Iacono of Lucali (No. 25), Wylie Dufresne of Stretch Pizza (No. 27), Massimo Laveglia of L'Industrie Pizza (No. 34), Giorgia Caporuscio of Don Antonio (No. 52) and Frank Tuttolomondo of Mama's TOO!
Where to Find the Best Pizza in New York
After bringing his talent from coast to coast, the pizza maestro planted roots in Manhattan with Una Pizza Napoletana. Tending to the wood-burning oven himself, Mangieri is deadly serious about Neapolitan-style pies, which also means there are no appetizers and limited dessert options—sorbet or gelato in true Italian form—but it's the pizza that takes center stage. Our Inspectors noted "fluffy edges, papery crusts and minimal toppings that hardly go beyond bubbly gumdrops of mozzarella di bufala and sweet tomato sauce".

A couple of years ago, Una Pizza was half-empty so often that its owner, Anthony Mangieri, was thinking of pulling up stakes. Then he did an about-face — or maybe we did. Now, he and his pizza are acknowledged downtown institutions.
20 Best Pizza Spots in New York City in 2023
Pizzaiolo Anthony Mangieri first opened his pizza shop in Manhattan's East Village back in 2004, at the beginning of the Neapolitan-style pizza renaissance in New York. Then he closed shop and moved to San Francisco for a while, bringing Una with him, until he reopened on the Lower East Side in 2018…only to shut down again thanks to the pandemic. This latest iteration opened in March 2022 with a menu of five pies and one rotating special, four toppings, and two appetizers and desserts—and we’re happy to report that the pizza is better than ever.

The crust on the pies at Una is fluffy around the edges, thin in the middle, and topped with simple, high-quality, mouth-watering ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes, smoked buffalo mozzarella, and Amalfi wild oregano that pay homage to the chef's Italian heritage.

This guy’s a stickler for tradition, so don’t expect trendy toppings or overloaded pies.
