Reviews Summary

Peter Luger Steak House is celebrated for its exceptional, dry-aged porterhouse steaks and classic Brooklyn ambiance. Diners praise the generous portions and high-quality beef, often calling it a must-visit institution. However, some patrons have experienced issues with steak preparation and found the service less attentive than expected, with mixed opinions on value for money.

"I'm obsessed with this steak! 🥩🤤 It's the most delicious, juicy steak I've ever had! No sauce needed, it's perfect on its own. Cooked to perfection and totally worth it. The salad was amazing too, especially with their homemade dressing and fresh veggies. The complimentary bread with their butter was so soft and yummy, and the gold coin chocolate was like Hershey's! Everything was fantastic. Definitely coming back! Reservations are recommended. Huge shoutout to our waiter - great humor and conversation! Highly recommend this NYC restaurant! 💯😍 #Steak #NYC #Foodie #Restaurant #Dinner #Salad #Chocolate #Butter #Waiter #Reservation"

"We visited as a group of three — two women (Two women who usually have small appetites) and one man — and ordered the steak for two, baked potato, tomato and onion, and spinach. The portions were generous, and we left feeling very full and satisfied.

Our reservation was for 5:45 PM on a Tuesday evening. Although getting to the restaurant during rush hour from Manhattan was a bit challenging and the location was somewhat unusual, it was absolutely worth it. It was the best steak I’ve ever had, and the high price felt completely justified. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the place was quite busy. I would definitely visit again."

Jenny Shin

"The atmosphere is classic and unpretentious. The bacon appetizer is a must-try. I don’t eat beef myself, but my family does. Peter Luger is their go-to steakhouse in New York. I usually get bacon, Lamb chop, tomato and onion. And we can’t leave without their homemade whipped cream! Service is fast, portions are huge with old school vibe.
Prices are on the higher side, but you’re paying for top-quality beef and a true New York tradition."

The 10 Best Steakhouses & Grills In New York City

Founded as a café in 1887 by Carl Luger, featuring billiards and bowling, Peter Luger’s Steak House quickly became a neighborhood favorite. The opening of the Williamsburg Bridge increased the number of loyal clientele flocking to Brooklyn for Peter Luger’s famed roast prime ribs of beef. Indeed, it was one of these loyal regulars, Sol Forman, who purchased the steakhouse at auction, continuing to run the establishment as a family orientated business that is still considered one of the best steakhouses in New York City, having achieved a Michelin star rating.

At this Williamsburg mainstay since 1887, your meal adheres to an unbreakable formula: free bread and the signature steak sauce, which tastes like doctored-up cocktail sauce, then a wedge salad with a bacon-to-lettuce ratio of one-to-one. Finally the impeccable creamed spinach, peppery german fried potatoes, and—the main reason you're here—the porterhouse. The steak has a crispy-crackly crust, a soft, luxurious interior, and a whole lot of butter, and it’s brought to your table still-sizzling by someone wearing a bowtie.
