Reviews Summary

Oxomoco is praised for its Michelin-starred elevated Mexican cuisine, stylish ambiance, and creative cocktails. Diners rave about the flavorful tacos and tostadas, particularly the lamb and tuna options, and the expertly crafted drinks. However, some find the portion sizes small for the price, and vegetarians may have limited choices.

"We’re so glad we went out of our way to experience Oxomoco — this one Michelin star gem is absolutely worth the trip. From the moment you step inside, the bright, airy space transports you straight to Mexico. It’s laid-back yet elevated, with a vibe that’s both welcoming and effortlessly cool.

The food is a celebration of authenticity and freshness. We started with the guacamole, served with warm, blue maiz tortillas straight off the comal — simple, but unforgettable. The tuna tartar with caviar was a surprising standout — delicate, flavorful, and unlike anything we’ve had before. And the steak tacos with tender, caramelized onions? Incredible. Each bite was perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying.

The agave selection is beautifully curated, and the cocktails are a highlight on their own — each one tasting like a love letter to Mexican flavors and craftsmanship.

If you’re into thoughtful, vibrant food that feels both familiar and innovative, Oxomoco is a must. We’d go out of our way again in a heartbeat."

"This restaurant is Great! Two things- spicy salsa will catch up with you even if you're sure you're fine at first (I'm a weak, white boy from the Midwest, so even Mayo seems too spicy at times to me). 2. The bathroom is AMAZING!

No really. Go.

The service is Lovely!
The dishes are great (it's NYC and good, so expect it will cost more).

Recently they had some ventilation issue, so their menu has rapidly pared itself down. (Hence 4-stars on food, not 5- I really wanted to try their other offerings!)

Regardless, look at these dishes!

Relish in these cocktails!

BEHOLD!
OXOMOCO"

"Beautiful place with outdoor seating. Great cocktail bar and delicious modern Mexican food. Not cheap at all but amazing flavors from a top kitchen. Service was good. Didn't hover, very knowledgeable and helpful."

The Best Brunch Restaurants In New York City

This Michelin-approved Mexican restaurant could almost convince you that you’re not in Greenpoint, what with the smattering of hanging plants and the wood-fired oven warming the whole place up. But Oxomoco is indeed on Greenpoint Avenue, pouring a slew of tequila and mezcal drinks for a boisterous brunch crowd. On the food side, it’s in your best interest to order the pombaza burger (juicy dry-aged beef topped with a tangle of smoked onions, queso asado and a fried egg), along with the weekend-only masa griddle cakes, dusted with Oaxacan chocolate, bananas and walnuts.

The wood-fired Mexican fare designed originally by chef Justin Bazdarich (Speedy Romeo) is what helped the Greenpoint spot earn one Michelin star after opening in 2018. These Are New York City's Best Restaurants

The Mexican food in New York has improved dramatically over the last decade and it’s no longer incorrect to say that the city has no good tacos. Oxomoco is one of the places leading the charge and for our money it’s easily one of the best restaurants overall, not just in the Mexican category. Utilizing a wood-fired oven, chef and co-owner Justin Bazdarich turns out dishes like shrimp ceviche tostadas, lamb barbacoa tacos, and chicken a las brazas with honey and salsa, plus addictive snacks like spicy roasted peanuts, popcorn with mole negro oil and escabeche powder, and guacamole with smoked cherry tomatoes.

Patrons come to Oxomoco in Greenpoint for its hip aesthetic—a massive skylight, a cascade of hanging plants, and an ornamental bar—but it’s Oxomoco’s unique menu offerings that keep them coming back again and again. Dabbling in various regional cuisines from across Mexico, this Michelin-starred restaurant is perhaps best known for its tacos, which can be stuffed with everything from beet “chorizo” to soft-shell crab to lamb barbacoa. However, be sure not to overlook their other colorful offerings such as the trout aguachile and the shrimp ceviche tostada, all made in their signature wood-fired oven.

Hands down the current coolest Mexican restaurant in New York City, Oxomoco is popular enough that tables here are hard to come by (they're usually taken up by designers and start-up owners). In the heart of Greenpoint, its aesthetics are just what you'd expect of a talk-of-the-town restaurant in 2019 - muted tones, a sexy, curved bar and plants trailing from the ceiling. Beyond the crowd and the setting, the menu is a serious standout.
