What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mắm is highly praised for its authentic Vietnamese street food experience and unique, adventurous dishes that transport diners to Vietnam. The atmosphere, with its casual seating and decor, is a major draw. While many rave about the flavorful small plates and specialties, some find the seating uncomfortable and certain dishes might not appeal to all palates. Despite minor critiques, it's considered a must-visit for those seeking genuine Vietnamese cuisine.
"This place is NO tips!! How nice. Food and atmosphere are both amazing. A immersive and authentic dining experience as if you’re in Vietnam.
The tofu and meat platter is great for sharing. A ton of variety of flavors and textures.
The snail dish is a bit different than I imagined but still delicious. It has a lot of pork mixed in with the snail meat so portion wise is large. The sauce was delicious and I used it to dip other dishes as well.
The fried prawns were fine but not super memorable. fried to the point that the shells are edible too."

"Everything we ordered was so delicious. We got seated quickly (on a Saturday!). The menu is not too extensive, so it’s easy to choose. The sauce with the egg for the eggplant was finger licking good. The enoki were so crispy and perfect. Great summer food. I had been wanting to come here for a while and it did not disappoint."

"Very extremely authentic Vietnamese street food! (Verified with two vietnamese friends I went with :) )
The food was great overall! The snail turned out to be unexpectedly gooood! The garlic fried chicken was a little sweet and the prawn was adequately crispy. The main dish had some strong smell of pork. I was fine with it but I felt some people might not like it.
The only downside for me was that the seats are extremely uncomfortable! My legs started to hurt while eating :("

Sitting on a low plastic stool, or perched on a bench at Mắm in Chinatown, it’s easy to form a close relationship with all the flavors and textures on your plate. Like the seating, the food at one of NYC's 25 Best Restaurants is uncompromising—from the tofu that’s made fresh every day to the perfectly springy blood sausage. In the summer, sit outside, wrapping and dipping your way through a platter of pork four ways, and another with three different mushrooms.

The menu offers just one or two mains at a time like bún đậu đặc biệt, a platter of house-made tofu with sticky rice sausage and several other meaty delicacies.
Noodles – Eat This NY
I totally stumbled onto something special the other weekend. Mắm had been on my list for a while as a new place to try. Their specialty are bowls of bun da (vermicelli rice noodles with an array of sides to dip) and on this particular Saturday, a bowl of noodle soup sounded great.
