Los Tacos No. 1 is the brainchild of two friends from Southern California and another from Tijuana, Mexico. With locations in Chelsea Market, Times Square, Tribeca, Grand Central, and the recent addition of NoHo, this taqueria and literal taco stand (seating is at waist-level booths only) offers some of the best Carne Asada, Adobada, and Pollo Asado Tacos in town.

Three transplants from California and Tijuana, Mexico dole out casual, authentic South of the Border eats (grilled cactus tacos, carne asada quesadillas) and homemade aguas frescas (horchata, tamarind) at this taco chain, which is offering takeout and delivery from its Chelsea Market, Grand Central, Times Square, and Tribeca outposts.

A few favorites are Fat Witch for insanely good brownies, the Chelsea Wine Vault for super-knowledgeable wine sellers (and sometimes free tastings!), the Doughnuttery for adorable mini-donuts, Heatonist for artisan hot sauces, Los Tacos No. 1 for surprisingly authentic and delicious tacos (certified by a Californian), and Num Pang sandwich shop for delicious banh mi. My friend Ryan, to whom I owe so much for his knowledge of New York City dining, as well as his company at so many of my favourite meals over the years, once told me that the move at Los Tacos was chicken and pork on corn; beef on flour tortilla, always. Los Tacos No. 1 is a counter-service Mexican taquería with locations in NOHO, Tribeca, Times Square, Chelsea Market, and Grand Central. Los Tacos No. 1 was born of a collaboration between three close friends from Mexico and California that wanted to supply New York with the authentic Mexican tacos they ate growing up. Their simple, authentic menu has all the Mexican favorites, from carne asada to adobada marinated pork.

After graduating from University in the United States, in 2009 I decided to travel to Southeast Asia, and I never moved back. And as much as I love Thai food, one of the only main cuisines I really miss living in Bangkok is Mexican food. It’s not the Tex-Mex type of food that I miss, but it’s the real proper tacos where you can taste the meat, the smokiness, and the fiery dry chilies in the salsa.

Created after three friends from Mexico and California decided to bring the authentic Mexican tacos to the East Coast, Los Tacos No.1 is home to beautifully authentic dishes made with fresh quality ingredients imported directly from Mexico. The menu is short and simple, but delivers on that West Coast flavour. Claudia and Miryam say that anything with Adobada (marinated pork) is amazing!

Los Tacos No. 1 has long been a favorite among taco enthusiasts, and the newly opened location on Church Street does not disappoint. The quality and flavors are consistent with the popular chain's reputation, but with the added advantage of shorter lines. This makes for a more comfortable and efficient dining experience, allowing customers to enjoy their meals without the usual wait.

Despite breaking out in a bit of a sweat about how busy and chaotic this place looked, it was worth it for the tasty tacos. Just off Times Square, this Mexican joint is ideal for a quick bite with a fiery kick. The tacos we ordered were reminiscent of the ones I devoured on my Mexico trip, delivering a surprisingly authentic feel considering the tourist-centric location.

One of my all-time favorite spots and one of the best affordable restaurants in NYC has to be Los Taco No. 1. Prepare your taste buds for a south-of-the-border sensation, this taco haven is nothing short of legendary in the heart of Times Square. With so much to choose from I would have to say my personal favorite is their Adobada marinated pork taco.

With five locations in Manhattan, you’re never too far from excellent, authentic, and cheap tacos. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but we’re fans of the carne asada (grilled steak) and adobada (marinated pork) tacos. They’re all less than $5 and far from skimpy, so two will probably fill you up as quick lunch or hearty afternoon snack.

As they say themselves: “In every taco from LOS TACOS No. 1 there is a bit of true Mexican culture and flavour.” For a few dollars you will find delicious tacos, tostadas and other dishes full of fresh ingredients. There’s even a grilled cactus taco on the menu.

I have heard so many times that there is no good Mexican food in NYC. But I guess it is because they haven’t tried the tacos and quesadillas at Los Tacos No. 1, at the Chelsea Market. You can see them preparing everything, even the flour and corn tortillas right there in front of you.

The battle between the east and west coast regarding the Mexican food scene is constantly present. Los Tacos No.1 is an excellent example of a great Mexican place in New York City. It is located in the Chelsea Market, and its primary focus is old traditional recipes from Mexico.

They’re seriously good and it’s where I direct folks who are craving tacos. They have two locations in Manhattan — one in Chelsea Market and a new location near Times Square. Both spots are always busy and have very little/no seating so this is a stand-and-eat kinda taco joint.

There are seven Los Tacos No.1 branches in Manhattan, with my favourites being Times Square and Chelsea Market, and the Adobada (marinated pork) and Pollo Asado (grilled chicken) are my go-to taco orders!. Tacos start at $4.75 for one and they’re worth every single cent!
