What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lilia is celebrated for its exceptional handmade pastas and elegant yet inviting ambiance. Diners rave about signature dishes like the sheep's milk cheese agnolotti and mafaldini, as well as the flavorful wood-fired focaccia. While service is generally professional, some found certain dishes to be average or not living up to the considerable hype.
"Pasta in its highest form. The airy, high-ceilinged space has great energy, where casual warmth meets fine-dining poise. Soft lighting, elegant plating, professional service. The focaccia, crackling and warm, arrives with a deeply flavorful and memorable green garlic butter. From there, the little gem salad is refreshingly tart, sharp with vinaigrette and pecorino, while the celery root is earthy and bright, delivering a citrusy lift. To round out the starters, the prosciutto arrives silky and delicate, paired with a balsamic mustard.
The pasta. It’s why you’re here, and it’s why you’ll return. The agnolotti, filled with sheep’s milk cheese, saffron-tinged and honey-kissed, kind of melts on your tongue. The caramelized onion ravioli vanishes almost too quickly, a testament to the exquisite taste of the brown butter and balsamic. The mafaldini is all about texture, its wavy ribbons clinging to pink peppercorn and parmigiano, delivering peppery goodness.
The soft serve honey-olive oil gelato is the right balance of sweet and savory, while the olive oil cake is moist and tender. Both are exceptional in their own way. The quiet confidence, the genuine hospitality—Lilia is magnificent. It's the kind of restaurant that ruins you for all others."

"A delightful place to spend an evening. It was packed on a Tuesday. Turnover of tables was brisk. The quality of the ingredients and the cooking was excellent. As ridiculous as this might sound, one of the truly outstanding dishes we had was Roasted Ramp Focaccia with Ramp Butter. Yes, the bread. Sensational. The prawns were as fresh as can be & the chicken cooked to perfection. Service was excellent - you get what you pay for. Highly recommend."

"Did early Friday dinner with our 2.5 year old daughter and had a great time ordering a bunch of pastas. Large outside seating area to enjoy nice weather and staff was great"

Best Italian Restaurants in NYC Right Now
After years in fine dining—including five spent at Chicago's Spiaggia, followed by a tenure at Manhattan's award-winning A Voce and A Voce Columbus—James Beard Award-nominated chef Missy Robbins has struck out on her own with Lilia, an airy and bright restaurant in Williamsburg. Featuring handmade pastas and wood-fired meat and seafood, Robbins' menu surveys Italy from north to south, drawing on the potent flavors of the Northern regions with sheep’s milk cheese filled agnolotti with saffron, dried tomato and honey, while conveying the country’s coastal flavors through black bass with salsa verde and coal roasted potatoes. In the daytime when the restaurant is closed, visit the adjoined Lilia Caffe, which serves coffee, sandwiches, and sweets all day.
The Best Italian Restaurants in New York City
After Missy Robbins earned her stripes as executive chef at Chicago's Spiaggia and NYC's A Voce, Lilia cemented her status as a queen of Italian cuisine. Adulation from The New York Times (which awarded the restaurant three stars) and the James Beard Foundation (which gave Robbins the Best Chef NYC award) attests to the supremacy of her cacio e pepe fritelle, veggies with warm bagna cauda, and saffron-tinted agnolotti dripping with dried tomatoes and honey. Yet the power of Lilia is probably best expressed by the fact that it's just as difficult to nab a table there now as it was the day it opened in 2016.
20 Best Things to Do in Brooklyn, NYC
If a restaurant is lucky, it’ll have one destination dish that piques food-geek interest and draws New York’s increasingly discerning eaters across bridges and through tunnels for a mere taste. Lilia—the airy Williamsburg pasta parlor that simultaneously serves as the kitchen comeback and solo debut from acclaimed A Voce vet Missy Robbins—has an entire menu of destination dishes; the biggest problem you’ll have here, other than scoring a free table, is picking a favorite.
The 19 Best Fancy Restaurants In NYC - New York
Coming to Lilia in Williamsburg grants you access to a special society: those who have eaten at the city’s most exclusive Italian restaurants. Once you sit down, though, Lilia’s industrial-looking space feels nothing like a glitzy club where diners hope they get blue Instagram checks with dessert—instead, the restaurant is a temple of simplicity in pasta. Besides the occasional addition of shrimp or squid to a fra diavolo, you’ll find bare bones near-perfection here.

As an avid rider of the NYC Ferry, I had always wanted to go to River Café. Located right on the Dumbo stop, the site of the restaurant, to me (and, I am sure, others) has an unavoidable allure, a magnetism. From the outside looking in, nosy folks sight couples who scored a seat on the river-facing side—and in real time, perhaps, all falling more in love with each other.
Ten Top Italian Restaurants in New York City
One of the brightest stars of the Williamsburg restaurant scene, this former auto-body shop turned casual-chic dining room has been dishing out some of the city’s best Italian fare since 2016. Chef Missy Robbins, awarded “2018 Best Chef, NYC” by the James Beard Foundation, thrills diners with creative house-made pasta like sheep milk cheese agnolotti with saffron, dried tomato and honey, and mafaldini with a pink peppercorn Parmigiana sauce. Other must-try dishes include focaccia with green garlic butter, herb-infused mussels, and grilled leg of lamb cooked on the huge wood-fired grill.
In ‘And Just Like That,’ Where Have All the Trendy Restaurants Gone?
Any casual reader of Deuxmoi or Page Six can tell you what the modern-day equivalents of these hotspots are: Samantha would probably confront the hostess at Pastis, whereas Miranda would convince the crew to come out to Brooklyn after snagging a booking at Lilia or Chez Ma Tante. Trendy Friday night dinners would be at Dhamaka on Bowery or maybe Via Carota, with a stop at Bar Pisellino first. Charlotte would brag about knowing the maître d’ at the Polo Bar, whereas a pompous man would definitely try—and fail—to impress Carrie with a reservation at Carbone.

The best restaurants in New York for first-timers
Chef Missy Robbins opened this Italian-American restaurant in a converted warehouse in Brooklyn's Williamsburg in the winter of 2016 and it's had a never-ending line of people clambering for a table ever since. The pasta is the real star of the show on the menu (the pink peppercorn mafaldine is one of my favourite dishes of all time) but the seasonal focaccia (think roasted leek focaccia) with green butter is to die for, as is the wood-fired seafood. Dessert is also a must, naturally.
