What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Jean-Georges is consistently praised for its innovative and sophisticated French cuisine with Asian influences, often described as a truly exceptional culinary experience. Diners love the creative flavor combinations and impeccable presentation, though some find the price point to be on the higher side. While many reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few mention specific dishes that missed the mark or a desire for a more intimate atmosphere.
"I mean, would you expect less than 5 stars for a 2-Michelin Star restaurant? The food was delicious, but beyond that, creative and thoughtful. I picked Jean-Georges for my Michelin Star dining experience because the menu sounded stellar. Too many restaurants either over-simplify or over-complicate food. Jean-Georges walks the line of creativity and sophistication without crossing over into absurdity. I will definitely be back once my budget recovers!"
Abigail Hay
"Amazing experience, but for a 2 Star Michelin, it needs some improvement! I was expecting something more intimate and the restaurant was packed. We were seated in a table with a long couch with two other families very close to us. We had the six course omnivore and two courses were disappointing: the caviar taste disappeared in the green garbanzo beans; the wagyu per se was tasteless and needs improvement! The last thing was the restroom, which was very basic and not compatible with the restaurant sophistication!"
Wladimir Meskelis
"Wonderful and friendly staff. Delicious tasting menu. We selected the 6 course menu and we were not disappointed. Great selection of wine; but apparently they don’t offer wine and food pairing options."

Best Food Halls to Visit in New York City
Over the past few years, along with outdoor dining, food halls have become a popular part of the NYC dining landscape. In part to a continuous influx of exciting new options, what was once considered the territory of suburban shopping mall food courts is now locally regarded as a much buzzed-about eating experience. And along with the highly-anticipated upcoming launches of the James Beard food hall, Singaporean street food-inspired Urban Hawker, the Boogie Down Food Hall in the Bronx, and chef Alexander Smalls’ African dining destination dubbed Alkebulan (which is slated to open next year in Harlem)—new additions like the chic- and brilliantly-curated Tin Building from the renowned chef/restaurant Jean-Georges are making it known that food halls are here to stay.
Best French restaurants in NYC from Le Bernardin to Le Rock
Unlike so many of its vaunted peers, Jean Georges has not become a shadow of itself: The top-rated food is still breathtaking. A velvety foie gras terrine with spiced fig jam is coated in a thin brûlée shell; a more ascetic dish of green asparagus with rich morels showcases the vegetables’ essence. Pastry chef Johnny Iuzzini’s dessert quartets include “late harvest”—a plum sorbet, verbena-poached pear and a palate cleanser of melon soup with “vanilla noodles.

By this point, Jean-Georges Vongerichten shouldn’t have any tricks left up his sleeve. But a six- or 10-course dinner at his urbane, understated restaurant on Columbus Circle is almost sure to deliver something you didn’t quite see coming. Wagyu tenderloin with braised endive might look like a simple steakhouse riff, but how can that sticky and intensely fruity hoisin sauce get along so well with a jus that carries the fragile perfume of bergamot?

Dishes showcase everything from attention to detail and impeccable products to thoughtful garnishes and nuanced flavors. The omnivore menu is appealingly versatile thanks to contemporary accents and classic techniques.
Avenue's Guide to the Best French Restaurants in NYC
Considered the crown jewel in Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s portfolio of 14 New York restaurants — with 42 and counting worldwide — this eponymous two-Michelin-starred eatery, which opened in 1997, showcases the Strasbourg-born, Paul Bocuse–trained chef ’s signature cuisine, which is built upon the intense flavors of seasonal farm-fresh produce rather than on the heavy cream and meat stocks of traditional French cuisine, with added influences from Asia. Highly sought dishes at the light-filled restaurant overlooking Central Park include tuna tartare with avocado and ginger marinade, seared scallops with caper-raisin sauce, and, during the summer months only, crunchy soft-shell crabs with a sugar-snap remoulade and pea salt — and, of course, the molten chocolate molten cake is not to be missed. For readers summering in the Hamptons, a bit of the Jean-Georges experience can be enjoyed at Topping Rose House, a historic property in Bridgehampton, which the chef took over from Tom Colicchio in 2016.
