Atchafalaya was first opened in 1924 under the name Petrossi’s Restaurant, but in the 1980’s, well-known restaurateur Iler Pope reintroduced the space as Cafe Atchafalaya. I went to Atchafalaya with my parents for the first time last week, and WOW did it exceed my expectations. Located in a residential neighborhood, this restaurant serves some of the best authentic Creole food I’ve ever had. The service was absolutely outstanding and both my parents and I were extremely satisfied with what we got.

The staff here was wonderful, even though we did not have reservations. Reservations are highly recommended for this restaurant, but the staff managed to find us a table anyways. We found it online when we were already in the area, and it showed as $$.

Atchafalaya is worth the journey into the mostly residential neighborhood of the Irish Channel. There’s a classy vibe to the place, but it’s also not afraid to let its hair down. Live music every weekend sets the soundtrack to your brunching.
