Mozie’s Bar and Grill is the perfect place to head to for a pre-show meal if you’re spending the night at the Gruene Hall — the historic 19th-century dance hall just across the street, and the oldest dance hall still in use in Texas. If you recognize the hall, you might have seen it in the movie Michael with John Travolta or seen the likes of Willie Nelson or Gregg Allman performing there. Mozie’s serves up classic American dishes and is famous for their sliders and hot dogs with jalapeño mustard.

My favorites are: The River House, Gruene River Grill, The Gruene Door, Infernos, Mozies, and Cantina Del Rio(for their chips, salsa, and margaritas. Those are all in Gruene. For BBQ, I like Blacks. For burgers and casual food, I like Freiheit Country Store and Lone Star Float House on River Road. Downtown, I like Muck-n-Fuss, The Phoenix Saloon, McAdoos, Huisache(pronounced Wee-satch), Krauses, 188 South, and The Downtowner. Favorite places for beer are Guadalupe Brewing, Five Stones Brewing, and Krauses. For wine, I like The Grapevine, and Dry Comal Creek Winery.

American traditional sports bar, for those times you just want to relax and eat casually. Located across the street from Gruene Hall, Mozie’s is a great spot before a show or to watch a game, has a full bar, with a filling menu that includes sliders, sandwiches, hot dogs with jalapeno mustard and sauerkraut, fish tacos, sandwiches, salads, nachos, top sirloin, meatballs and pasta, garlic fries, onion rings, and strawberry cake for a sweet finish. Hours are Sunday, 11am-10pm, Monday – Thursday, 11am-11pm, Friday, 11am-12midnight, and Saturday, 11am-1am.

Sitting right across the street from Gruene Hall— the oldest dance hall in all of Texas, Mozie’s a fantastic place to eat or grab a drink before catching a show. But even if you don’t have tickets across the street, you’ll love the classic Mozie’s sliders, 100% hot dogs, and other American classics. Sports are always on the TVs, and Happy Hour runs from 3-7 pm every Monday through Friday.

Walking into Mozie's, I instantly felt transported to a lively brick alley pub with its rustic and welcoming atmosphere. This hidden gem, nestled in the heart of Gruene, truly lives up to its reputation as a beloved lunch spot. As I perused the menu, my eyes were immediately drawn to the reuben sandwich.

In a sliver of a storefront, Mozie’s is across the street from Gruene Hall. Part bar, part restaurant, the menu features options like sliders and salads along with a kids’ favorite, a Grown-Up Grilled Cheese. Additional entrees tempt diners like pasta, chicken and steak.

But Mozie’s is a lesser-known eatery located right across the street from The Gristmill and features a delicious menu. Mozie’s is located in the H.D. Gruene Mercantile building, catty-corner from Gruene Hall, and is a sports bar with a full menu.

Mozies is also good, but less formal, but good for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks. There are normally a lot of bands playing throughout the week at various locations - check out KNBT FM website for a listing of bands for the week.

Firstly, the welcoming staff at Mozie's made me feel like I was part of their family. They were friendly and attentive, making sure I had everything I needed during my brunch experience. Now let's talk about the drinks!
