My favorites are: The River House, Gruene River Grill, The Gruene Door, Infernos, Mozies, and Cantina Del Rio(for their chips, salsa, and margaritas. Those are all in Gruene. For BBQ, I like Blacks. For burgers and casual food, I like Freiheit Country Store and Lone Star Float House on River Road. Downtown, I like Muck-n-Fuss, The Phoenix Saloon, McAdoos, Huisache(pronounced Wee-satch), Krauses, 188 South, and The Downtowner. Favorite places for beer are Guadalupe Brewing, Five Stones Brewing, and Krauses. For wine, I like The Grapevine, and Dry Comal Creek Winery.

That being said, our two favorite local spots always seem to knock it out of the park: Krause’s Cafe and McAdoo’s Seafood Co. Bearing the traditional mark of New Braunfels’ Deutsch heritage, Krause’s is both “German classics and Texan favorites”, living up to its reputation with a lively outdoor garden and of the largest tap walls in the city. On a different historic note, McAdoo’s Seafood Co & Oyster Bar offers incredible creole fare in a restored century-old Post Office in downtown New Braunfels.

If you wish to stay near the Main Plaza but want Texas-style creole cuisine and fresh fish, we highly recommend McAdoo’s Seafood Company on Castell Avenue. McAdoo’s operates out of an early-1900s post office, and much of the original foundation remains intact, including the exposed brick, tall ceilings, and large windows. Take a seat next to the oyster bar, sit near the hanging rowboat in the main dining area, or venture out to the newly-renovated, fully-covered outdoor patio.

From the moment I walked into McAdoo's Seafood Company, I could already tell it was going to be a stellar dining experience.
