The Huisache Grill was founded in 1994 in downtown New Braunfels in what was then a dilapidated building that had previously been at various times a Greek, Chinese and Mexican restaurant. Such has been the success of the Huisache Grill that the restaurant had to expand in 1999 and then again in 2007. The reviews are excellent and the grill has a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor for the quality of the contemporary American cuisine with a strong Texan flavor.

Sometimes it’s nice to order food you know from people who know food in a place that’s nice enough for an anniversary dinner but casual enough for a friends' night out. In 30 years of operation across the railroad tracks from downtown, Huisache owners Don and Lynn Forres have built — and rebuilt and built on — an operation where the sesame-almond-crusted trout is just as good as it was 10 years ago, where everything on the mixed grill plate could stand on its own, where tortilla soup’s still good for the soul and where the waiter will have ideas on which wine goes with all of them. For a destination dinner of duck and tenderloin, for a quick lunch of hot-and-crunchy trout, for an afternoon glass of cold German piesporter wine and charcuterie, Huisache is a moveable feast where khakis and cargo shorts fit in just fine with suits and sundresses.

The menu features appetizers like "bacon-wrapped chicken poblano skewers", greens like "spinach salad", sandwiches like "grilled portobello mushroom", entrees like "pecan dusted pork tenderloin medallions", and desserts like "southern pecan pie cheesecake".

My favorites are: The River House, Gruene River Grill, The Gruene Door, Infernos, Mozies, and Cantina Del Rio(for their chips, salsa, and margaritas. Those are all in Gruene. For BBQ, I like Blacks. For burgers and casual food, I like Freiheit Country Store and Lone Star Float House on River Road. Downtown, I like Muck-n-Fuss, The Phoenix Saloon, McAdoos, Huisache(pronounced Wee-satch), Krauses, 188 South, and The Downtowner. Favorite places for beer are Guadalupe Brewing, Five Stones Brewing, and Krauses. For wine, I like The Grapevine, and Dry Comal Creek Winery.

If you’re looking for a dressier dinner out, Huisache features creative, contemporary cuisine in a cozy, quaint environment. McAdoo’s is a very cool converted post office that serves upscale cajun-style seafood. (We recommend putting your name down on the waitlist and heading to the bar for a cocktail before sitting down for dinner.) New to NB, enjoy hand-crafted cocktails with new American food (complete with happy hour deals) at Cody’s.

Huisache Grill is one of the best restaurants in New Braunfels for two reasons. Firstly, it’s a fantastic place for dating or special events. And, secondly, it’s always fun to hear beginners try to pronounce a name.

Please note that most of these restaurants and bars allow pets only in their outside patio areas. Most restaurants will provide cool water for your pups, some places might have treats as well.

Huisache Grill New Braunfels is a nice medium priced while Myrons Steakhouse is a nice expensive steak house. The Grist Mill in Gruene has excellent food. A bit more of a relaxed atmospher.

Huisache Grill's Hot and Crunchy Trout is a local favorite, and the Pecan Dusted Pork Tenderloin Medallions are tenderly grilled and served with herb baby potatoes and fresh green beans.
