Reviews Summary

Redheaded Stranger is lauded for its creative Tex-Mex offerings, particularly its signature Green Chile Cheeseburger and freshly made tortillas. Diners rave about the vibrant flavors and the unique, quirky atmosphere. While service is generally friendly, some mention that it can be slow during peak hours, and parking may be limited.

"Great place. We went on a Tuesday evening where it wasn’t too crowded, but we still ended up needing to sit outside. If you go at peak times you should be flexible - the line will probably be well out the door. They have a wall of all of their past specials, but the menu is quite small: tacos, crunchwraps, a chile cheeseburger, and a few side options. We chose a chile cheeseburger and a pork Crunchwrap. The service was cheerful but took a little while. The outdoor patio has self serve water and I assume the same is true inside. The burger was outstanding - smash burger style patties gave it those delicious crunchy edges while the inside of the burger was still moist from the meat, sauce and melty cheese. The Crunchwrap was also delicious and filling. We’re not hot food lovers but I found the levels of both to be tolerable - just under the threshold of being “hot”. The house margarita was strong and reasonably tasty. It’s definitely a neat spot to check out if you’re in the area. Would recommend!"

Hayden English

"Redhead Stranger is a hidden gem tucked away in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. As you walk in, the menu is displayed on the wall to your left—simple and easy to read. The gentleman behind the counter was incredibly kind and helpful, happy to answer any questions we had.

The place has a cool, laid-back vibe with stylish decor and a great outdoor seating area. A nice touch was the little “call card” they give you so they know whose food is whose—fun and thoughtful.

We tried the brisket taco first, and wow—what a bite! The tortilla tasted freshly made with a chewy, almost fluffy texture. The brisket was tender, bursting with bold flavor and just the right hint of spice.

The burger was also a standout. Super gooey cheese (in the best way), juicy and well-marinated patty, and thick-cut bacon that wasn’t smoked—which I actually preferred. The chili had a sweet kick, and the sauce had a minty garlic twist I couldn’t quite place but really enjoyed.

Totochos were a nice side—crispy on the outside, fluffy inside. They were a bit salty for my taste, but that’s just personal preference. The cheese was solid, though not overly distinctive, but I loved the addition of beans for that extra richness.

All in all, a great experience—amazing food and great service."

Iestyn Jones

"We had the green chile cheeseburger and the bacon, egg, cheddar, tots taco. The burger was alright but far from remarkable - I love green Chiles and despite there being a healthy amount of them on there, it was barely noticeable. Tater tots were all crunch and no fluff but seasoned nicely. Taco was forgettable. We went at an off time on a weekday and service wasn't particularly fast."

Best Patios for Eating and Drinking Outside in Nashville

Chef Bryan Lee Weaver garnered a vaunted reputation for his work at the Middle Eastern/Mediterranean eatery Butcher & Bee, but his true passion is good old fashioned Southwestern cuisine. Weaver still runs The Bee, but Redheaded Stranger is where he gets to play with fun dishes like inventive breakfast tacos, one of Nashville’s best burgers spiced up with Hatch green chiles, a burrito that’s as big as your head and his version of a crunchwrap that puts a certain national chain to shame. A sunny afternoon passed drinking cold beer and eating hot food on the deck at The Stranger has quickly become an East Nashville fixture.

12 Nashville Restaurants Where You’ll Want To Become A Regular - Nashville

Yes, there are often lines at Redheaded Stranger in East Nashville, but we still find ourselves coming here every time we crave a breakfast taco, burrito, or crunchwrap (which is, unsurprisingly, quite often). They get people in and out quickly, and once you have your egg and tortilla breakfast item, you should stay a while at the counter bar or patio out back. Avoid the bulk of the crowds and come during the middle of the day, where you can chat with the friendly bartenders over a margarita, split some totchos with a friend, or down a couple bacon, egg, and cheese tacos which are available all day.

The Best Breakfast in Nashville

While not explicitly a breakfast joint, exactly half the tacos on the menu at this Tex-Mex eatery contain eggs — and that’s enough to secure a spot on this list. Led by executive chef Bryan Lee Weaver of Butcher & Bee, the restaurant opened in July in the McFerrin Park section of East Nashville, and has steadily been luring patrons with fresh tortillas and queso, eight inventive tacos, and a permanent home for the beloved Green Chile Cheeseburger (once only available from the Chef’s Bar at the Bee). Don’t sleep on the RHS Burrito, stuffed with chorizo, green chile sauce, scrambled eggs, pepperjack cheese and crispy hashbrowns.

13 Must-Visit Nashville Restaurants

Not far from Folk stands a Tex-Mex taco shop with a sense of humor where you can gobble down one chef’s highly agreeable take on Taco Bell’s Crunchwrap. To make it, chef Bryan Lee Weaver (also of Butcher & Bee) fills his fluffy handmade tortillas with Texas red chili, pork green chili, or both when you order it “Xmas-style.” If tacos are more your speed, you’ll find toppings like brisket, tater tots, and freshly roasted Hatch chiles. To me, the sleeper hit is the vegetarian taco with charred poblano, whipped feta, and crispy rice, thanks to its variety of textures and smoky heat.
