Weaver still runs The Bee, but Redheaded Stranger is where he gets to play with fun dishes like inventive breakfast tacos, one of Nashville’s best burgers spiced up with Hatch green chiles, a burrito that’s as big as your head and his version of a crunchwrap that puts a certain national chain to shame. A sunny afternoon passed drinking cold beer and eating hot food on the deck at The Stranger has quickly become an East Nashville fixture.

Yes, there are often lines at Redheaded Stranger in East Nashville, but we still find ourselves coming here every time we crave a breakfast taco, burrito, or crunchwrap (which is, unsurprisingly, quite often). They get people in and out quickly, and once you have your egg and tortilla breakfast item, you should stay a while at the counter bar or patio out back. Avoid the bulk of the crowds and come during the middle of the day, where you can chat with the friendly bartenders over a margarita, split some totchos with a friend, or down a couple bacon, egg, and cheese tacos which are available all day.

Redheaded Stranger – a name inspired by Willie Nelson – was the first to bring the Tex-Mex vibe to East Nashville. Fresh tacos, burritos, Frito pies and more, it offers an array of traditional Southwest dishes – make sure to come here on your cheat day. Chefs from across the US are often invited to collaborate, so there may be a surprise guest or two in the kitchen.

At this all-day Mexican diner in East Nashville's Cleveland Park neighborhood, expect a variety of tacos on offer, including breakfast tacos, homemade Crunchwraps, and a green chile cheeseburger that is not to be missed. There's ample indoor and outdoor seating, though it's a popular spot so expect to wait in line during peak hours.

While not explicitly a breakfast joint, exactly half the tacos on the menu at this Tex-Mex eatery contain eggs — and that’s enough to secure a spot on this list. Led by executive chef Bryan Lee Weaver of Butcher & Bee, the restaurant opened in July in the McFerrin Park section of East Nashville, and has steadily been luring patrons with fresh tortillas and queso, eight inventive tacos, and a permanent home for the beloved Green Chile Cheeseburger (once only available from the Chef’s Bar at the Bee). Don’t sleep on the RHS Burrito, stuffed with chorizo, green chile sauce, scrambled eggs, pepperjack cheese and crispy hashbrowns.

Red Headed Stranger is easily becoming one of the most popular breakfast/brunch spots in East Nashville. Named after Willie Nelson’s famous album, this neighborhood taco shop serves breakfast and lunch 7 days a week and has just recently opened up for dinner service on Fridays and Saturdays. RHS sets themselves apart from other taco places in town by making fresh flour tortillas every morning filled with brisket, green chiles and other southwestern inspired foods, pulling out your inner disco cowboy/cowgirl and making you feel like the Red Headed Stranger himself might walk in and join you any minute.

Not far from Folk stands a Tex-Mex taco shop with a sense of humor where you can gobble down one chef’s highly agreeable take on Taco Bell’s Crunchwrap. To make it, chef Bryan Lee Weaver (also of Butcher & Bee) fills his fluffy handmade tortillas with Texas red chili, pork green chili, or both when you order it “Xmas-style.” If tacos are more your speed, you’ll find toppings like brisket, tater tots, and freshly roasted Hatch chiles. To me, the sleeper hit is the vegetarian taco with charred poblano, whipped feta, and crispy rice, thanks to its variety of textures and smoky heat.

Homemade flour tortillas are the base of these delicious tacos, with the "No. 8" being one of Guy Fieri's favorites. It's stuffed with whipped feta, rice, roasted poblano pepper, and hot sauce.

If you are looking for Tex-Mex with a delicious, fun twist, head to Redheaded Stranger in East Nashville. The menu is small, but every single option is full of flavor. The tacos are fun and fancy, but the surprise hit is the cheeseburger topped with hatch chiles.

The gigantic bright red strawberry sculpture is the first sign that you’ve arrived. The plain facade of the building, former site of a landscaping business, belies its cool interior, a kind of mid-century American diner/Mainland China mash-up.

And sometime this summer, they plan to open Xiao Bao as a full-service restaurant in East Nashville’s McFerrin Park neighborhood, on the same rapidly developing stretch of Meridian Street that’s home to Folk, Redheaded Stranger and Audrey.
