Reviews Summary

Hattie B's is renowned for its exceptionally flavorful and crispy Nashville hot chicken, with a wide range of spice levels to cater to all palates. Diners rave about the delicious Southern sides and friendly service, though many note the long wait times are a significant factor. While some find the experience lives up to the hype, others feel it's primarily a tourist draw. Overall, it's considered a must-try for authentic hot chicken, despite potential queues.

"The BEST chicken sandwich I've ever had. Chicken is perfectly crispy and still coated in sauce. Incredible flavor profile.

The only negative is that it was a really long wait to order. Took about 30 minutes to wait. Once we ordered food arrived quickly.

Very good service as well. Prices are also very affordable.

Definitely a meal worth waiting for."

"Great little chicken shack! Staff was very pleasant and the food was good. FYI medium will give you a little sweat but it’s not overwhelming! My chicken was a little small but my +1 was a good size. The strips were a decent size too. We got the lemonade and coke slushy with alcohol and they were good but not strong enough. The line was out the door and around the building but worth the wait. Seating was limited inside but there was more on the deck. It was pricy, spent over $70 for four people. Definitely would go back!"

Jason Carpenter

"The team at this place is simply fantastic! This was my first trip to Nashville and my first taste of Hattie B's, and the experience was exceptional! I chose a hot chicken sandwich paired with a chicken tender that had the "Shut the Cluck Up" spice (which they did kindly caution me about), and let me tell you, it was no joke, FIERY! The staff was so warm and attentive, consistently checking in to see if I needed anything. I asked for water, and they even offered me ice cream. Awesome place! I would definitely come back!"

The 9 Best Nashville Hot Chicken Restaurants, Ranked - Nashville

Hattie B's has perfected the method of hot chicken production, so you’re going to get a consistently cooked bird just about every single time. Locals love to sip an icy-cold glass of haterade when talking about the chain—it’s easy to feel like this is just hot chicken marketed to the masses. But their hot chicken has just the right amount of crispy skin-to-tender meat ratio, and an almost overwhelming number of different spice levels to choose from—the hottest tests even the mightiest tolerance for capsaicin.

More recently, this stuff has gotten hot on a metaphorical level too -- the popularity of chicken (or fish) sauced in a cayenne paste and fried has spread beyond the South like wild fire, and there is an entire festival dedicated to the crispy phenomenon. But amongst the great places to find it, Prince's remains the original & best.

The Perfect Long Weekend in Nashville: 3 Days of Food & Fun

Not far from Centennial Park, you’ll find Hattie B’s. Nashville is famous for its “Nashville hot chicken” – popularized by the likes of Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, and foodies worldwide. The legend behind hot chicken is a bit hilarious: supposedly, a scorned woman spiced the hell out her womanizing husband’s fried chicken to teach him a lesson. Yet the revenge plot backfired when he ended up loving the chicken, turning the tables, and eventually opening up a restaurant using her recipe.
