For brunch, I’m fond of Boon Fly Cafe, tucked in a somewhat out of the way location on Highway 12 (the highway that connects Napa and Sonoma) at the fancy Carneros Inn. It’s overpriced, even by Napa standards, but the food is really excellent, especially the Texas Toast egg-in-hole and the mini cinnamon sugar donuts.

Boon Fly Cafe sits in the south corner of Napa sharing the same property as the Carneros Resort and Spa. It’s an industrial building with wood and metal tones and fantastic food. I have eaten here many times, and it’s hard to pass up when I am in the area, especially because of the flatbreads and the brunch food.

Undeniably, the Carneros AVA is one of the easiest areas to plan a day trip to, since it’s just about an hour north of the Bay Area. It straddles Sonoma and Napa, so you do get a bit of both. I’d start at Donum, a winery that also offers daily tours of their seriously impressive sculpture garden (see video).
