Reviews Summary

Village Corner Bistro is lauded for its friendly service, cozy ambiance, and delicious Mediterranean-inspired fare, particularly its brunch options. While the food and atmosphere are frequently praised, some diners note the limited bathroom facilities and occasional blandness in certain dishes.

"Great tasting dish. Very well prepared and the service was good, too. I ordered the halibut fish tacos. My wife had the seafood pasta, and the rest of the group had halibut and chicken quesadillas. The place was moderately busy. There was, however, only one bathroom so there’s a bit of a wait to wash up. Otherwise, this place is highly recommended. We will definitely be back in the near future. Thank you to the staff and also the cook!"

"Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆

Food: American breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner

Carmel is a very pretty, affluent well kept town and this corner ‘bistro’ for want of a better description seems to be a local favourite. It’s easy to see why. This was a breakfast visit and serves all your favourite diner classics along with some upgraded eggs Benedict selections. I look forward to trying the lunch and dinner here one day but will definitely recommend it for breakfast.

What I liked:

• Very friendly service
• Good, well cooked breakfast order
• Reasonable price point
• The owner is a pro and very nice man who knows how to work the room engaging with his guests. 5⭐️ for him!
• Nice courtyard dining area with fire pit

What I didn’t like:

• Thought the two eggs and hash browns portion size was very small and poor value compared to the Eggs Benedict options. Despite tasting very good I should add.

Do I recommend going? YES
Will I go again? YES
Was it good value? YES (overall)
Price Point: $$"

What you need to know!

"We came during a weekday, and there was no wait. We sat on the outside and it was beautiful. The staff is attentive and friendly. The food was super delicious! They have this hot sauce that is so flavorful you have to try it. I will be trying to see if I can order this online. The hash is super delicious and I got the artichoke omelette. If you are in town, would recommend to stop by."

Carmel Restaurant Suggestions - Fodor's Travel Talk Forums

In the last month we have had lunch at La Bicyclette twice, Peppers in Pacific Grove, Rocky Point twice, Village Corner 'cos we had the dog, and Little Napoli. All were good, but Rocky Point is my favorite. When the weather is great as it has been for the past month, sitting outside at Rocky Point and having a great burger is the best lunch I can think of.

In 1976, the restaurant was threatened with a loss of their lease as the owners of the building had other plans for the property. Frustrated and angered over the possibility of losing their cherished restaurant local Carmelites sprang into action and formed a group called Old Carmel. Concerned with the proliferation of tourism in Carmel, this organization established themselves as a powerful political movement of 300 residents and through their actions were able to save the Village Corner from eviction.

Where to Eat in Carmel-by-the-Sea

What I loved most about this classic Carmel cafe, aside from its wonderful outdoor patio space, is how local and welcoming it feels. Village Corner is a Carmel institution that serves fresh and local products, including artichokes and calamari from a few mere miles away (so delicious!) If you’re vegetarian, gluten-free, or committed to sustainability, they’re incredibly accommodating for all three. Fantastic lunch spot (to best enjoy the patio.)
