Visitors who are fresh from a visit to Monterey Bay Aquarium can start by dropping into A Taste of Monterey, a wine bar and restaurant that’s paired with an Instagram-ready view of Monterey Bay. Driving down from San Francisco, we arrived hungry and headed straight to lunch at A Taste of Monterey. Ace culinary outfit Aquaterra runs the kitchen, another share-plate superstar thanks to treats like treats like housemade sausages, chicken-artichoke flatbreads and Cubano panini.

Visiting this winery is one of the perfect ways to get your dose of California tasting while in Monterey. The atmosphere here is breathtaking, you will feel as though you’ve been transported to Tuscany without leaving the States. They offer an assortment of different flights and their most popular ones are the light and refreshing Sea Otter Rosé and spicy yet chocolaty Cru Library Vineyard Pinot Noir.

I normally wouldn’t recommend a wine market as a stop but A Taste of Monterey also has a bistro attached. It’s such an amazing find that I had to include it as a dinner stop in this Monterey itinerary. The menu has a range of small bites (the Yucatan chicken nachos are amazing), salads, and flatbreads, which is perfect after a big lunch.

The tasting room, with a more-than-180-degrees view, overlooks the Monterey Bay. To your left, you can see seals basking near the aquarium, and kayakers braving the Pacific Ocean. ToM offers wine tastings from Monterey Vineyards...last time I was there, it was $6 for six tastes, and you can choose all white, all red, or a 3/3 combo.
