Aside from being incredibly popular, they have a great selection of well-thought-out taps that're perfect for a leisurely afternoon of beer drinking. They’ve also got a great selection of classic British pub fare, and let's face it, you’re never going to go wrong with a good ol' sausage roll with mustard cream.

It’s hard to find a dish that is anything less than fantastic at George & The Dragon!. Although dressed up as a comfy old-school British pub, this fun restaurant in Minneapolis serves way more than your average pub fare and their menu is quite diverse; alongside their excellent burgers and killer fried green beans (not to mention a to-die-for cheesy bacon onion dip), you will also find a super delicious Bahn Mi sandwich, awesome salads named after British Queens, and the famous Asian Hangover… it’s five-spice pork over Jasmine rice with garlic green beans and a fried egg. Your tastebuds will explode with just one bite.

The restaurant’s name may at first sound like the title of a novel that you’d read to your worldly son, but the fun doesn’t end there. Their not-too-serious takes on British pub food — dubbed “family recipes” — draws crowds to this Lynnhurst eatery most nights of the week. On a recent Saturday, I came in search of judiciously prepared fish and chips ($17) and marveled at the thin batter, the perfect fries and that homemade tartar.

When it comes to local pubs with a British flair, George & the Dragon is the place to be. It’s always a struggle to pick just one meal off of the menu, but if you want the fan favorite, go with the Asian Hangover. It’s spicy pork with green beans, a fried egg, and jasmine rice.

This low-key bar in southwest Minneapolis is modeled after a traditional English pub. Wood paneling lines the walls, and coat hooks stick out from poles beside every comfy booth. But while the decor might have a British flare, the beers are decidedly local.

That's gone but apparently Taberna has the recipe and makes them. I haven't tried them, and I'm a little skeptical because I think what made Porky's so good was the frying oil making chicken alongside the onion rings all day, but it's a promising lead.
