Theirs is by far the richest, most flavorful vanilla custard in town—a fact that became increasingly apparent as I tasted my way through other stands.

Milwaukeeans know that Kopp’s is the best place to grab a giant burger (they’re nearly the size of a dinner plate!) and a great scoop of frozen custard. This small chain will keep you coming back with their inventive flavors of the day like Eclair Affair, German Apple Strudel and Chocolate Cherry Bum Bum.

The burgers are super unique to the restaurant, and they are giant in terms of circumference vs. width. I personally like them more because I’m not always a huge fan of biting down onto a giant patty of beef. Instead, I prefer to bite down onto a thinner patty, almost like a patty melt.

If there’s one thing you need to do in one day in Milwaukee, it’s get some frozen custard from Kopp’s. There are a couple of locations around Milwaukee, but you can’t find this chain outside of the area. It was founded in the 1950s, and it still has the 1950s vibe inside!

Everyone we talked to recommended a stop at Kopp’s Frozen Custard. Given that Kopp’s was partway between my grandparents’ houses and our hotel, and it was right at noon, we stopped by for lunch (cheeseburgers) and custard of course. The flavors change daily.

Take a bite into one their massive and juicy burgers and scoop up a bite of their delicious custard. Just a short ride away from the lake, this is food that was meant to be eaten on the hood of a car. One of three locations you can never go wrong with.

I actually prefer their chicken sandwiches to their burgers, but they have awesome (and well-priced) custard. If their flavor of the day is cashew caramel crunch, get it!. Looks like I need to start planning my annual trip to Milwaukee!
