Reviews Summary

Kopp's Frozen Custard is a beloved Milwaukee institution, celebrated for its enormous, affordably priced burgers and decadent, ever-changing frozen custard flavors. While service is efficient, the lack of indoor seating and potential for a wait during peak times are noted. However, the overall consensus is that the fresh, classic fare and nostalgic atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop for locals and visitors alike.

"I would usually get burgers and fries but tonight it was just a malt. I got the lime malt and it was excellent. The person I went with got the cherry shake and it was also good. Whether you're in Brookfield or Glendale, Kopps is excellent."

Brandon Eddy

"This is a classic Milwaukee joint! I think you almost have to pay a visit here to understand:) the burgers & grilled chicken sandwiches are HUGE!! And so fairly priced. You can easily feed two people for under $20. It’s made to order, so don’t come when you’re hangry and impatient, because there’s usually it’s THAT good! It’s prepared pretty quickly and service is usually really good. No where to sit and eat inside - there are standing tables or go outside to sit on the stadium like concrete seating.

Don’t miss the cows out back… they are pretty mesmerizing!

This may not be gourmet, but it is classic, consistent, and so affordable! And then there is the ice cream - which might be the whole reason you come! Along with classic chocolate and vanilla there are two rotating and different flavors every day."

Sheri Mazariegos

"Kopp’s is a total classic. The portions are huge, honestly more than you can finish and everything feels super fresh. It has that old-school charm that makes the whole experience even better.

Even though it’s always busy, they’re quick with orders and super efficient. The menu is simple, which I actually like no fuss, just good frozen custard and burgers.

Prices are decent for what you get, and there’s something nostalgic about the whole setup. Oh, and the line of cow statues in the parking lot? Loved that little quirky touch.

Definitely worth the stop if you’re in the area and craving something sweet."

Best Things to Do in Milwaukee—the Midwest's Most Overlooked Gem

Whether it’s hot outside or not, frozen custard is a must—head to either Kopp’s or Leon’s where you can indulge the richer, creamier version of ice cream in a cone, shake, malt, float, or sundae. Since you are in the Midwest, the home of the supper club, an all American tavern that’s a hallmark of the region, pleasantly frozen in the 1950s to 70s. Locals will say the best ones are out of Milwaukee’s limits, but find great examples at The Packing House and Five O’Clock Steakhouse.

The 22 Best Restaurants In Milwaukee - Milwaukee

Wisconsin frozen custard is a thing—it’s made with egg yolks, plus other ice cream ingredients—and the highest amount per capita can be found in Milwaukee. If you want to try this delicacy in a place that takes it seriously, go to this ‘50s-era custard stand where all the workers wear white paper hats. The flavors rotate with the season, like Bailey’s Irish Cream Coffee, which makes a compelling case to clean out your freezer so that a pint, or three, fits.
