A funky ode to Florida, Over Under honors our great weird state with locally inspired food and an eclectic design that’s punctuated by quirky thrift-store finds. Co-owner Brian Griffiths is a Broken Shaker alum and a vanguard of the local cocktail scene, keeping things current with cleverly named concoctions and refreshing sippers, such as the frozen Paloma with your choice of a floater. Over Under is primarily a place we go for Happy Hour to consume delicious things in an environment where we don't have to worry too much about the clothes we're wearing. The theme of both the menu and the spiritual core of the restaurant is: Florida. It embraces the state with a mix of irony (they once created an entire menu as an ode to Flanigan's) and sincerity (they once created an entire menu as an ode to Flanigan's).

Bar food made right sums up the offerings at Over Under, which sources all the meat and fish for its Florida-inspired food program from the Sunshine State. Don’t miss chef James McNeal’s delicious smoked fish dip, made with locally caught mahi-mahi and served with fried saltines and peppers pickled in-house. If you’re a meat-free foodie, opt for the Jamaican jackfruit patty with a vegan spicy garlic ranch dipping sauce or the chili fries topped with jackfruit chili and vegan sour cream.

Although it also offers traditional canned beers and other kinds of shots, Over Under is primarily recognized for its assortment of frozen drinks, staying true to its Maimian heritage. Chef James McNeal’s comfort food with regional tastes is available on the menu in the form of smoked fish toast, cheeseburgers, jackfruit nachos, and other dishes.

As a relative newcomer on the Downtown Miami bar scene (they opened in 2020), Over Under has already caused quite a stir as one of the hottest gastropubs around. According to the owner, Over Under offers “frozen drinks and comfort food in a welcoming and open environment”. This is a pretty spot-on description as Over Under has managed to create a dive bar atmosphere that serves awesome cocktails and delectable food.

Brace for full Florida kitsch at this irreverent Downtown bar and restaurant steeped in all the things that make our great state weird and amusing. Why we love it: Over Under is home to one of the best cheeseburgers in Miami, plus a few more things that chef James McNeal does very well.
