What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Macchialina receives widespread praise for its exceptional, flavorful, and beautifully presented Italian cuisine, particularly its handmade pastas. Diners also rave about the lively yet welcoming atmosphere and the extensive, well-curated wine list. However, some patrons have experienced rushed service and found the automatic gratuity and credit card fees to be unexpected and excessive.
"Amazing experience at Macchialina. We had done some research looking for the best restaurants on South Beach and this restaurant kept coming up. We were so glad we decided to visit. We were expecting the meal to be good based on reviews, but our dinner absolutely exceeded our expectations. We had professional, attentive, warm, friendly service by the staff from star to finish. They were knowledgeable regarding the menu and gave great recommendations. I believe our server was Neil and he was training another gentlemen (can't recall his name) and both were wonderful. Our meal felt/tasted both high-end and yet reminiscent of homemade Italian meals I had growing up. I was not expecting to be transported down memory lane when we arrived, but it truly was a lovely, surprisingly nostalgic meal. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Every cocktail we ordered was also delicious. We will absolutely be adding Macchialina to our normal rotation when we are visiting South Beach."

"The food here was exceptionally good—bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The mushroom pasta was absolutely divine. The restaurant offers an extensive and thoughtfully curated wine list, featuring an impressive selection of skin-contact wines. Each glass was vibrant, complex, and wonderfully expressive, making for a perfect pairing with the pasta. The atmosphere is lively, buzzing with energy, yet still relaxed and welcoming. The spacious outdoor terrace is elegantly designed and ideal for enjoying a leisurely meal. A truly beautiful spot with incredible food and wine—highly recommended!"

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our evening at Macchialina in South Beach was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we settled in at the bar, we were captivated by the vibrant yet effortlessly refined atmosphere.
The food was simply exquisite—each dish a testament to thoughtful preparation and authentic Italian flavor. Every bite reflected the kitchen’s dedication to quality and craft.
What truly elevated our experience was the impeccable service. Maria, our bartender, was warm, gracious, and exceptionally knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm. Jackie, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our evening was perfect. Her attentiveness and gracious spirit made us feel thoroughly cared for.
It is rare to find a place where ambiance, cuisine, and hospitality harmonize so beautifully. We will most certainly return to Macchialina and recommend it to anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience in Miami Beach. Five stars all around."

Restaurants in Miami and Miami Beach
Framed by exposed-brick walls, decorated with daily specials on chalkboards, and packed with gregarious patrons, this local foodie hangout feels like a cozy neighborhood tavern—unless you opt to sit outside in the lush courtyard. Owner and chef Michael Pirolo nails the concept of modern Italian cuisine through a small but special selection of antipasti (try the local burrata and creamy polenta) and daily homemade pastas (like tagliolini al funghi and spaghetti con vongole).
Where To Eat Outside In South Beach - Miami
Macchialina is one of the absolute best Italian restaurants in Miami. The menu has about six phenomenal pasta options, and each one feels like a final draft, edited to near perfection without so much as one superfluous fragment of parmesan on the plate (dessert is a must-order too). Nobody makes you feel more convincingly like you're in Italy than former-Scarpetta chef Michael Pirolo does at Macchialina. This cozy Alton Road hideaway not only survived the volatile Miami restaurant industry, it survived the demolition of Alton Road, a global pandemic, and last year’s Spring Break. It’s persevered thanks to the richest red sauces, freshest pastas, and most inventive cocktail menu on this list.
25 Best Restaurants in Miami Beach for Every Budget and Ocassion
For years, Macchialina was the place I’d name when somebody asked for my favorite Italian restaurant in Miami. Best wine bars in Miami
During the pandemic, Miami Beach’s romantic little Italian eatery—known for its extensive, all-Italian wine list—grew to include covered patio seating and tacked on a small wine “shop” up front for those wanting their bottles to-go. Locals love the decade-old gem for its homemade pasta and hearty mains like veal Milanese, but it also sports one of the city’s best Italian wine lists. Italian-born beverage director Jacqueline Pirolo sources harder-to-find wines and less-known fringe varietals like Vitovska and Gaglioppo from Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo, Veneto, and Piedmont, offering 100 selections ranging from a 2010 Domenico Clerico Percristina Barolo to a 2012 San Fereolo.

Macchialina is a tiny Alton Road eatery owned by former Scarpetta chef Michael Pirolo, who makes every guest feel right at home on arrival. The popular restaurant serves a creative menu of the freshest house-made pasta, the richest red sauces, hearty meat and chicken dishes, and decadent desserts, along with an inventive cocktail list. Pasta, risotto, and gnocchi are all made by hand by the chef himself; the house lasagna puts nonna's to shame, and nobody should leave without trying signature dishes like the Mediterranean octopus with concentrated tomato and potato cream or the beet mezzaluna crowned with hazelnuts, brown butter, and ricotta salata.

The menu, which changes with inspiration and seasonality, is a testament to one of the fundamental ideals of Italian cookery: that the food should be simple, that the flavors should be robust, that the ingredients should be superb.

Speaking of Italian restaurants that do it right: sometimes I forget what a gem chef Michael Pirolo has created in Macchialina, which is coming up on its ten-year anniversary some time this year. We had a great dinner outside in the "giardino" in May, which included some old favorites – the broccolini al cesare, the tiramisu with espresso granita – mixed in with some nice seasonal dishes, my favorite being this tagliolini with a rich, forest-y morel mushroom ragu.
