Lung Yai Thai Tapas features the best Thai food in all of Miami, prepared by a Bangkok-born chef who clearly understands what it takes to develop flavors as rich as his dishes. It's normal to wait about 90-some minutes for a table at the no-reservation restaurant, but it's well worth it. The restaurant is about as unfussy as it gets in Miami's Calle Ocho district, with minimal decor and styling.

Chef Bas’ ode to his native Thailand is a compact restaurant serving above-average curries you will most definitely have to stand in line to try. But every single one is worth it. Part of the shtick here is that you’re only allowed to order once, so make sure the pad see ew with beef and khao soi gai find their way to your table.

The excellent Ghee earned chef Niven Patel a James Beard nomination for his progressive take on Indian cuisine, and Lung Yai Thai Tapas quickly became one of the most popular restaurants on the historically Cuban Calle Ocho shortly after it opened in 2015.

Lung Yai Thai Tapas is my newest find, thanks to good friends who are regulars. It reminded me of the non touristy, out of the way places you can find in Thailand, in its no frills ambiance, cooked in front of you dishes, and menu. The large menu is divided into snacks, salads, spicy Thai curry (in the red, green, panang, and massaman varieties), soups, chef’s recommendations, wok stirred fried noodles and rice and Northern Thai specialties.

Chef Bas’s compact restaurant in Little Havana is a delicious ode to his native Thailand. Why we love it: You will most definitely have to stand in line for the curries, but trust us: Every single one of them is worth it. Part of the schtick here is that you’re only allowed to order your food once, so make sure the pad see ew with beef (a stir-fry with thick rice noodles) and the khao soi gai (a golden curry) find their way to your table.

Go for that Cuban sandwich or basket of croquetas from Versailles, or try some Nicaraguan food at Guayacan, Mexican food at Mi Rinconcito Mexicano, or, my personal favorite, the Thai cuisine at Lung Yai Thai Tapas. Yep, some of Miami’s best Thai food is found in Little Havana!. After lunch, cool off with a delicious ice cream treat from Azucar, which offers locally-inspired flavors like Sweet Plantain, Cafe con Leche, and Caramel Flan.

Yep, it’s a thing, thanks to chef Bas Trisransi and what started as his passion project in 2015: Lung Yai Thai Tapas. Inspired by his Bangkok roots and the memory of his grandfather, the dishes here are as savory as they are beautiful. The space is cozy — there’s a wraparound wooden bar where you can watch the Thai staples (pad thai, pad see ew, curries galore) get spiced to the max.

Thai places to find authentic Thai cuisine, but on 8th street sits a small and cozy restaurant serving up some of the best Thai food in the city. The building is unassuming and modest, but don’t let that fool you – the food here is incredible. Come and experience the unique flavors of Thailand with Chef Veenuthtapon Trisransri, or “Bas” as we locals call him.

Lung Yai Thai Tapas is a small hole in the wall place on 8th Street. It's definitely not an area where you would expect to taste some of the best Thai food you've ever tasted. The Som Tam (papaya salad), the Jungle Curry Fried Rice, and the Roasted Baby Back Ribs are some of my favorite items on the menu.

If you can handle the strict rules of Chef Bas, then Lung Yai should be a number one Thai restaurant on your list. It’s not often that there’s no a line of people waiting outside, but it’s always worth it. Check out the menu before you get there and order quickly, you only get one chance to order.

Leave it to Miami to have a restaurant that serves Thai tapas in Little Havana, of all places. But that’s what Lung Yai does, and honestly, we don’t know what we’d do without its crispy tofu, Thai-spiced fried chicken and khao soi gai (egg noodles in golden curry with coriander and red onions).

However this Thai spot ended up in Little Havana doesn’t matter. What matters is that you find it, you wait (no reservations accepted) and you enjoy every bit of Bangkok-born Chef/owner Veenuthri Trisransri’s Thai street food, served tapas-style and, for those of us who love…

This tiny eatery on Calle Ocho serves up flavorful curries, spicy papaya salad, and perfectly crisped Thai-style fried chicken. Just be prepared to wait—this place is always packed!. You may also be interested in Chifa: The culinary legacy of Chinese immigration in Peru.

If you are able to make a reservation at Lung Yai, then go for it without giving a thought. But you can’t easily get a reservation at this place and especially if it is Saturday night. All you can do is register your name and patiently wait for your reservation.

Lung Yai Thai Tapas in Little Havana lost its Bib Gourmand designation but like The Den will remain a recommended restaurant.

I haven’t been here yet, but this was one of the casual/authentic Thai places that came most recommended by my followers.

Lung Yai Thai Tapas is no longer a Bib Gourmand, though it, too, stays in the Guide as a “recommended” restaurant.
