Reviews Summary

Catherine & Mary's is celebrated for its elegant ambiance and a unique blend of Tuscan, Sicilian, and Southern flavors, with many praising the chef-driven pastas and attentive service. However, some diners have noted issues with inconsistent seasoning, long wait times for food, and a noisy atmosphere, particularly on busy nights.

"Make sure to get reservations, they are busy. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. I really appreciate our server helping us get our order in before several large parties.

I highly recommend the meatballs and crispy polenta. The mafalde and halibut were also great. The cocktails are probably the weakest part of the menu at present. Finally, save room for dessert."

Kirby Thornton

"I found the portions to be a good size and prices to be reasonable despite other reviews mentioning the opposite.

Atmosphere wise, the place is rustically designed and beautifully furnished but quite dim. Two out the four barstools I tried were wobbly.

Service was okay. One of the waitresses, who didn’t introduce herself so I didn’t get her name, had to ask me and other parties several times to remind us of our orders after they were place but otherwise she was very kind. Silverware was swapped with each course, which I appreciated. The wait for food was long, especially considering the restaurant was only a third full, even though they are all freshly prepared.

I had the Pimm’s Cup cocktail, which was good. Fried Mozzarella with bomba and basil salsa verde was good as well. I was impressed with the portion size (4 large pieces) considering it was listed as a snack. Duck toast was tasty but the lard bound the duck together and the focaccia was probably too big for the amount of duck, but the portion size was reasonable. Parmasean gelati with a shortbread cookie was unique and a great ending at only $4.

I also saw the pastas and the meatballs and all were nice portion sizes for the price and considering the pasta is freshly made (I’m told)."

Jonathon Reckles

"Decided to give this place a try for a special occasion after reading rave reviews. Our experience was underwhelming. We ordered three appetizers, and they were alright, not too good nor too bad. The pasta that I ordered was an absolute disaster. It was very salty. Upon letting the server know, he took the pasta in and brought it back the same exact dish, telling me it was modified. While paying $20 for a pasta I’d atleast expect it to be edible. The drink I ordered wasn’t great either. The place was extremely noisy as it was a Saturday. The service was average.Overall, not a great dining experience."

Best Cheap Food in Memphis

Catherine & Mary’s has a ton of can't-miss options in the $12-$15 range, but every day during Happy Hour (4-6pm), the spuntini menu has a handful of $5 snacks. The major stand out is the fried chicken skins, seasoned up with maple syrup and mixed with pickled red onions.

Memphis Downtown Restaurants: 10Best Restaurant Reviews

From the culinary geniuses that have helped bring Memphis into the national dining, spotlight comes the downtown eatery that's just too good for words. Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman - the boys who brought us Andrew Michael, Porcellino's Craft Butcher and Hog & Hominy - have now given us Catherine & Mary's, inspired by their grandmothers' cooking. Think Nona's marinara, but way beyond that â€" a blend of Tuscan and Sicilian flavors married to Memphis sensibility. Housed in the historic Chisca building, dinner at Catherine & Mary's is a multi-course feast for the palate and the senses. The menu changes monthly, and there's a real emphasis on local producers as well as meat from Ticer & Hudman's craft butchery. Most plates, including the pastas, are sized and priced to share, and our advice is to indulge. Another real emphasis is on desert and drinks, with an in-house pastry chef, a wine director and a craft cocktail genius.
