We have heard great things about Star Noodle from Gary Leff and others, so it was a "must try" on this visit to Maui. Star Noodle is located a couple blocks off the main road in Lahaina, and it was roughly a ten minute drive from the Hyatt Regency Maui. I think theoretically you could take a public bus to within a couple blocks of Star Noodle if you were so inclined.

The farther you get from Maui's resorts, the more local mom and pop joints you'll find. These local outposts serve such specialties as pork roasted in banana leaves, poi (ground taro root) and haupia, a creamy coconut custard.

From this point on in our list, the dining experience gets a little more relaxed and low-key – but the food remains fantastic. Star Noodle serves up inventive and fresh noodle dishes, as well as Asian-rooted share plates, for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. Why I Loved it: The service here was amazing, and you can tell that the staff is super passionate about the food that they’re serving!. This was my second visit and my first since eating gluten-free, and while the menu isn’t labeled as to what is/isn’t gluten-free, it was super easy to figure out what to enjoy with the help of our server – he just made modifications to our selections as necessary. Everything is SO fresh and really delicious.

I haven’t been here in many years because I hate waiting for a table. However, many of you have said that the quality remains high so I’m leaving it on this list. Some of our favorite gluten-free dishes include Filipino Bacon and Eggs, Roasted Mushrooms, Vietnamese Crepe, Brussels Sprouts (with sauce on the side), and Ahi Avo (remember to ask to substitute tamari for the shoyu if you need to be careful about going gluten-free).

Star Noodle’s claim to fame was its previous head Chef Sheldon’s great success on the TV show Top Chef. My personal favorite is the Vietnamese crepe but vegetarian which is a bunch of veggies tossed in coconut cream sauce in an (egg containing) fried “crepe” served with sauces, herbs and lettuce leaves to wrap pieces of the crepe in. Its really messy but really delicious.

What drew us to Star Noodle for our final meal in Maui was the promise of steamed buns, which none of us had tried before. It is so hard to get a reservation that the restaurant apparently offered one “walk-in” night a week which they call “Aloha Fridays.

Hmm didn’t try Star Noodle 🤔 I know I love 808 Grindz bc there is one in Kona, but I haven’t gone yet.
