La JollaEric and Alan Adler, along with their cousin Isi Lombrozo, began their taco empire in La Jolla with the first Puesto location, and are now making their mark in the beachy suburb with Marisi, tucked into the spot that formerly housed Whisknladle. Led by executive chef Cameron Ingle and beverage director Beau du Bois, Marisi’s menu represents the best of Italian hearth cooking, like handmade pasta and woodfired dishes—think mouth-watering carpaccio; seasonal agnolotti; tender short rib ragu; whole roasted branzino dressed in pesto verde and herbs; and a 40oz Snake River Farms porterhouse. Start your meal with du Bois’ Marisi G&T, a fresh take that includes white port, or choose an aperitif from one of more than 30 vermouths.

Marisi is La Jolla luxury, but trendy enough to impress someone visiting from Silver Lake. The menu of excellent pastas changes often, but it’ll almost always include the simple rigatoni, cooked to a perfect al dente and punched up with some calabrian chili. The cappelletti is another standout—we loved a recent version stuffed with cheese and lemony escarole, and wading in a rich parmesan.

Why we love it: Come to Marisi for the pasta and stay to soak in the gorgeous interiors and sexy ambiance. Grab a seat on the sunlit patio or head back to “the Lemon Room” to feel like you’re on the Amalfi Coast.

Opening the doors to Italy by way of La Jolla, Marisi’s dessert program is equally as spectacular as their handmade pastas, woodfired dishes and meticulous beverage program customary to Italy. Simultaneously rich in taste and light in texture, the Milk Chocolate features valrhona jivara namelaka, benedictine chantilly and black currant, emphasizing a nostalgic sweetness in every bite. The silky Coffee & Cream with marscaponne panna cotta, devil’s food ganache, bavarian cream and coffee streusel is perfect for sharing and sure to transport guests to a cobblestone street outside of a cafe in Italy.

A San Diego Magazine pick for Best New Restaurant, Marisi serves up authentic Italian fare with a focus on woodfired-hearth cooking, expertly crafted cocktails, and the finest wines. Its space is exquisitely designed and delightfully romantic, featuring touches of pink throughout, an open-air patio with trailing vines, sweeping ceilings with arched walkways, and custom-branded wallpaper. Menu standouts include the daily handmade pastas, little gem Caesar, zucchini blossoms, prosciutto and pineapple, and focaccia, among many others.

With a focus on fresh, inventive dishes that depend on the season and responsible sources, the frequently-changing menu at Marisi is consistent in its flavorful Italian offerings. We’re partial to the homemade pastas in shapes new to us and the limoncello, made on site. And as often as we’re seated on the beautiful patio that reminds us of a garden on the Amalfi Coast with a wine recommended by the expert sommelier, we’re also relaxing at the gorgeous bar, sipping on cocktails with creative curations.

Modern Italian restaurant Marisi in La Jolla is the hottest reservation in town right now, with an excellent aperitivo hour and classic Italian cocktails. Housemade pastas and line-caught local fish are highlights, but Executive Chef Cameron Ingle has a way with vegetables too. Hearty salads and sides like roasted koginut squash atop hot honey yoghurt sprinkled with crunchy pepita praline and hearth smoked apple paired with brassicas make Marisi one of San Diego's best dining options for vegetarians.

La Jolla has lots of fancier spots that can be a little stuffy, but Marisi finds the perfect balance of upscale and cool. Both the inside—with views of the round, gilded bar, open kitchen, and wood-fired hearth—and the covered outdoor patio filled with plants are great places to be. They also have one of the better setups for a private dining room: Marisi’s Lemon Room seats up to 26 guests, is wrapped in citrus-printed wallpaper, and ideal for a large work dinner.

Before I wax too rhapsodic on this deliciously different pasta dish at the 1-year-old family-owned trattoria Marisi, a few caveats: It’s no longer on the menu, and Chad Huff, the famed pasta chef who created it, no longer works at Marisi. However, Marisi is still dedicated to making all of its pasta in-house and elevating classic dishes with fresh interpretations. The pappardelle dish, which I enjoyed last winter, is a good example of this philosophy.

Sometimes you find a restaurant that stuns you with its beauty, and that’s Marisi. Located in the heart of downtown La Jolla, Marisi is a win whether you’re there for their brunch, dinner, or how I experienced it, their aperitivo hour. The truth is sometimes you run out of time to eat everywhere you want to while traveling and to be honest, I had fully planned on indulging in Marisi’s dinner service but life happens and we ran out of time.

Renowned for its Italian hearth cooking, Marisi draws the La Jolla community with its pillowy, salted focaccia served alongside whipped brown butter and balsamic. But the housemade pasta, like the red-sauced rigatoni with a dollop of stracciatella on top, seals the deal for this hot spot, whose alluring interiors transport diners to the Amalfi Coast. Marisi boasts a spectacular bar and a lovely patio overlooking La Jolla.

Stepping into La Jolla’s Marisi feels like discovering a hidden gem along the Italian coast, where handmade pasta and classic cocktails transport you to a European world of culinary expertise. Split the hearth-roasted bone marrow with salsa verde or the staggering 40-ounce bistecca alla fiorentina. Then, toast to the evening with clarified white peach Bellinis and the declaration that you’ll both certainly be back!

On February 14, head to La Jolla for a romantic dinner at Marisi with your favorite person. Helmed by executive chef Cameron Ingle, lovers can enjoy a four-course Valentine’s Day dinner offering menu items such as king crab carbonara, steamed saffron mussels, and pasture-raised New York Strip paired with a glass of sparkling rosé. Finish the night with a baked Alaska and an espresso martini.

Marisi is a new Italian dining experience, also located in La Jolla. The name comes from a combination of Marila and Isidoro, an Italian couple whose legacy is celebrated through the restaurant’s hearth cooked meals and handmade pastas. Marisi’s executive chef and beverage director both come from Michelin star restaurants to present an authentic mixture of Californian and Italian cuisine.

Founded by Puesto owner Eric Adler, Marisi is a feast for your eyes and a delight for your stomach. The handmade pasta here is as understated and elegant as the interior design. Everything about Marisi is immaculate, from its chic touches of wrought iron and seafoam green to its perfectly plated primi piatti.

The food and drinks are spectacular, and equally as visually stunning is the decor. Located in downtown La Jolla, Marisi features an open kitchen, freshly made pastas, fresh seafood and a charming bar if you’re not able to get a table. Making a reservation in advance would be my strong recommendation.

San Diego tastemakers agree—when it comes to the La Jolla restaurant scene, Marisi is a stand-out!. Allow the coastal riches of both Italy and SoCal to entwine here through responsibly sourced regional bounty spotlit in a sexy atmosphere with vibrant design cues. Your date will be impressed!

Although it’s been open for barely a month, this Italian-accented bistro has been in the works since pre-Covid. It wasted no time in becoming a local hotspot. The handmade pastas are winners one and all, but the delicate agnolotti with king crab and corn is a can’t miss.

Marisi La Jolla: This place has amazing Italian food and is perfect for a date night or group dinner. Not only did I love the focaccia and pastas here, the service was fantastic and our large group never felt rushed.

Puesto’s owners are opening a high-end Italian next door called Marisi. Word on the street is that it will be a Michelin-star type of deal. I know it’s going to be great.
