"We visited during our spring break vacation, and it was one of our highlights. It did take a while to be seated, even when half the restaurant was empty, but we did visit on a Thursday morning and it seemed like they had limited staff. Once we were seated, we had a great experience. The staff was incredibly engaging with our kids, and we really enjoyed our food.
Our kids shared pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream, and didn't leave one crumb behind. We also ordered a carne asada breakfast burrito, the salsa on the side had the perfect amount of spice kick to it. Everything on the menu looked great!"

"There is a reason why this place has been in business since 1960. The food was great and on par with every other breakfast restaurant price-wise. I got the BW Benny's and it was delicious. My aunt and mom split the oatmeal pancakes and really enjoyed theirs as well. Our server was even better than the mesh."
Matt Martin
"We ordered:
- breakfast burrito with sausage 9/10 you can change the sausage for bacon and other stuff
- chicken fried on top of a thin waffle 8/10
- corned beef hash & eggs 9/10
- original waffle 8/10
- original pancake 8/10
- hot cocoa 10/10 it’s made with water and it’s amazing
The food was pretty good but they took forever to give us our plates, for real like 45 minutes.
The diner is a little filthy, the rug is not clean, the restrooms are not clean. I’m not from San Diego and I’ve been there twice, it’s really different from the first time I was there it’s like they stop caring."

Best Restaurants in La Jolla, California Right Now
Harry's Coffee Shop opened in 1960, and judging from the wall of fame in the back of the place, it has sponsored every sports league in the city since. It serves up exactly what you expect: Bacon Pancakes come with chunks of bacon in the batter and a couple of slices on top, and it still has that grilled chicken with the Greens, Strawberry, Feta, and Pecan Salad that was all the rage in the early aughts and is still pretty delicious today. Harry’s isn’t one of those places that never updates its menu though; you’ll also find espresso drinks and cold brews, as well as gluten-free options. How to book: Indoor seating is on a first-come basis.

Harry Rudolph moved from Brooklyn to Southern California not long after his dearest Dodgers, for whom he was once a batboy, headed west intent on establishing a new legacy in the golden state. Although his favorite baseball team called Los Angeles home, Harry preferred life in the jewel of California and opened up his very own diner-style coffee shop off Girard Avenue in 1960. He and his wife, Catherine, fostered a classic American atmosphere that conveyed the same nostalgia, neighborhood comfort, and friendliness that was found on so many street corners throughout the New York City boroughs they came from.
