For those of you that eat pork, Porky’s Kauai is a must stop while visiting the island to try out some tasty, unique pork sandwiches. Located primarily in Waimea near the old Mill (and also in Hanapepe on Friday evenings, as well as a location in Kapa’a) Porky’s started as a hot dog stand that has now grown into a large food truck that is highly rated among tourists and locals alike. Stop by on your drive to or from Waimea Canyon and dive into one of Porky’s Kauai’s three signature sandwiches: a pineapple sausage, beef hot dog, and a grilled cheese – all topped with their famous slow roasted kalua pork and other delicious toppings and sauces.

When I think of Waimea, three things come to mind: sunny weather, Porky’s kalua-pork hot dogs and that vibrant red dirt. Kauai’s the oldest island—approximately 3 million years older than Oahu—so its soil is a bit further along in the oxidation process, causing that bright, beautiful color of red. Driving to the town, you’ll spot stores selling red dirt shirts as souvenirs (I have one of these), and let’s not forget the town name, Waimea, which literally means “red water” for the color the dirt turns the river and ocean.

When it comes to finding a family-friendly dining spot on the south side of the island, Porky’s is a must-visit destination. This casual eatery caters to both kids and adults, offering a menu that combines familiar favorites with a creative twist that will satisfy both the children and the parents. It’s a grilled bun (with a bit of cheese coating the outside), and a perfectly grilled pineapple infused pork sausage topped with roasted kalua pork, grilled onions, and pineapple.

This South Shore eatery began as a hotdog cart in New York City, and their menu still features a pair of hotdog dishes that will leave a lasting impression. Among their limited menu, they put a Hawaiian spin on the classic hotdog flavors by adding pulled pork, pineapple and other fresh local ingredients.

While Kauai certainly has its share of upscale dining establishments, sometimes the best meals are found at small, unassuming, locally owned eateries. My recommendation: get the pulled pork grilled cheese!

And when you’re on the island of Kauai, there’s only one place to go – Porky’s Kauai. This little food truck is known for its pineapple sausages, rice bowls, and melty grilled cheeses. And if that’s not enough, they also offer a complimentary drink with each meal.

Porky’s makes the perfect end to a long day hiking at the Waimea Canyon. This tiny but impressive food truck offers delicious porky goodness with a Hawaiian twist. You know the twist we’re talking about – sweet, tangy, pineapples, of course!

Hours: Tues-Fri 11-4pm, Sat 11am-3pm (Closed Sunday & Monday). Porky’s is locally known for its tasty BBQ in Waimea. Sadly, Porky’s was closed when we were in the area, but I can’t imagine us not liking it.

OK. So this was by far my favorite meal while on the island. Porky’s is a food truck that is rated #1 on TripAdvisor. We visited the truck in Waimea on our way home from Waimea Canyon.

Porky’s - The menu is short but sweet, with a focus on doing a few things, but doing them well. Unsurprisingly, Hawaiian style pulled pork is the star.
