Reviews Summary

Diners praise The French Market Creperie for its authentic French atmosphere and delicious, creative crepes, noting both sweet and savory options. While many rave about the unique fillings and charming ambiance, some reviews mention slower service during busy times and occasional disappointment with non-sweet crepe choices. Overall, it's a highly recommended spot for a taste of Paris.

"Their crepes were delicious! I had the one with hummus and buckwheat batter and added smoked salmon. I love that they offer a buckwheat batter option. My husband usually like crepes but he approved. Would definitely come by again if our travels bring us back to Knoxville"

Linda Charles

"Amazing place. We’re staying at the Hilton and it’s a very easy walk to this little gem. First of all the atmosphere, decor, etc is so cute…it feels like what a French cafe would be. The menu is expansive. The customer service and ordering was flawless. Now, for the taste…it was wonderful. We got a croissant and bacon (asked us if we wanted it crispy or regular…who does that?! Amazing), and a Nutella and strawberry crepe…so rich and delicious. Vanilla late was perfect too. We got here 3 minutes before they opened and were already 4th in line. By the time we ordered there were 10 more people behind us. The line seemed to move quick though and our food came out very fast. 10/10"

Carly Woods

"Great find in downtown Knoxville! Small cafe with an EXTENSIVE menu. Very delicious. Very busy, but they keep things moving. Plenty of seating. Food, drinks and service are all exceptional. Highly recommend."

A Taste of Tennessee: What to Eat Knoxville

Of course, there are my other tried-and-true favorites that I didn’t even have time to stop by on this visit: The French Market Crêperie for breakfast, The Tomato Head for lunch, Coolato Gelato for a sweet treat, Sunspot for dinner, Downtown Grill & Brewery or Barley’s for drinks, Crown & Goose for a pint. Tupelo Honey Café is good, too, but I’ve stopped going there with all the new additions to downtown. And all those other newer places like the Public House that I still didn’t have a chance to visit due to the ice storm stopping the city dead in its tracks.

Travel Guide: Knoxville, Tennessee

But locals (everyone I met was friendly and still tolerates tourists) say in the last several years Knoxville has taken off, becoming a city that supports local artists, cherishes its history, is bringing people downtown to live and offering creative food and drink that I’d love to see restaurants offering in Sarasota and Manatee. You can feel the energy in this up-and-coming city that’s a mix of artists, beer and whiskey makers, innovative chefs, college students and entrepreneurs. You can also feel its proud Appalachian roots.

Do you ever have those moments when you step in somewhere and think, “Wow, I feel like I’m not in Knoxville.” The Scruffy City definitely has its charm, but you will find a different sort of rustic here. Black & white photos of Paris adorn the sky blue walls and a chandelier hangs from the ceiling, creating a bright atmosphere that transports you to the land of crepe; the entire reason why I’m here. This creperie has two delicious gluten-friendly batters to choose from: buckwheat and a dedicated gluten-free.

Knox Rocks: The Perfect Weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee

On our final morning in Knoxville, we had several options for breakfast—Makers donuts and Status Dough being two worthy contenders (and spots you absolutely must try if you have a sweet tooth), in addition to my regular, tried-and-true haunt, Tomato Head—but I can never resist the crepes at French Market, which has relocated from Gay Street to the other side of the square and, ultimately, won out in a battle of the breakfast foods. I still don’t regret that decision one bit!

I'll add Taj for Indian, La Costa for fusion gourmet, The Bistro for seasonal eclectic gourmet, New Orleans on the River in Sevierville for creole, Dead End BBQ for, well, BBQ, and Taste of Thai for Thai. BBQ in Knoxville is most closely related to the western Carolina style, ie a tomato/vinegar sauce that is not very sweet. JMT appears to be a Memphis dry-style fan.
