Reviews Summary

Pine Tree Cafe is celebrated for its generous portions of hearty, local Hawaiian fare, with the spicy garlic chicken and loco moco receiving frequent praise. Diners appreciate the extensive menu and reasonable prices, making it a convenient stop, especially near the airport. However, some reviews mention issues with order accuracy and quality consistency, with one diner experiencing an incomplete and disappointing takeout order.

"So happy to find a place with some tasty local food options amongst all the touristy burger and taco places. The spicy garlic chicken (mild spice) was so yummy, as well as the loco moco and korean chicken! So good we came back the next day for more!"

Vye Stone

"Huge menu with many options- a little on the pricey side for some items but food was good. We got the fried rice omelette and the fried rice was very yummy- simple and not too salty or mushy. Lots of space and our order was ready quickly, however, there were some teeny flies that were very bothersome when trying to eat."

Rhi Huang

"If you are looking for a local place with classic Hawaiian fare you are in the right place. The Loco Moco was good as was everything we ordered. Busy popular place, lots of locals. Indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of free parking, minutes from airport. Our flight was delayed so we made a stop, nice way to end the trip. Service was fast despite how busy they were."

Named for a popular nearby surf spot, the low-key, no-frills café offers local plate lunch options and classics such as loco moco (meat, rice, and eggs smothered in gravy), alongside new inventions like crab curry bisque. The fresh-fish plate is decent, and all meals are served with fries or rice and macaroni salad. The prices are a bit higher than you might expect, but the portions are huge. It's a good place to stop for a last-minute bite—breakfast, lunch, or dinner—before catching your flight back to the mainland.

Big Island Hawaii - Where to Eat

Pine Tree Cafe - One of the best local food places in my opinion. It has staples like korean chicken, teriyaki chicken and beef and it has some original items like spicy garlic chicken (pictured above) and Furikake Ono. The helpings are large and the prices are reasonable, but it’s more than that, it’s great food.
