Reviews Summary

Huggo's is celebrated for its spectacular beachfront dining experience, especially during sunset, with many praising the fresh seafood and generous portions. While the food and service are frequently lauded, some find the prices to be on the higher side for a casual outing, though most agree it's worth the cost for the ambiance and quality.

"I had a great experience, my waiter Tom was very kind and attentive. He provided great suggestions and provided a great service. The atmosphere was amazing… it was storming and raining but sitting by the water I got to experience the restaurant without getting wet. The food was too notch I ordered the Pork Chop with double mashed and was not disappointed. The dessert was amazing as well, it came highly recommended by Tom and I was very pleased with it. Overall the service, atmosphere and food was superb."

Scott Fritz

"Outstanding! The atmosphere is gorgeous, the staff is friendly, and the food is amazing. At our table we ordered lamb, pork chops, steak and fish and no one was disappointed. A bit pricier than we normally spend on our casual outings but that doesn't mean expensive. Worth every penny. From appetizers to deserts, everything was delicious."

Brad Shreve

"Our food was absolutely delicious. We were able to eat steak and fish while overlooking the ocean at sunset. Service was great as well. We had a wonderful dining experience. Went to the bar for a cocktail after dinner and both bartenders were very knowledgeable and the specialty one of a kind drinks were amazing."

Restaurants in Kailua-Kona

A Kona icon since 1969, family-owned Huggo's is one of the few restaurants in town with prices and atmosphere comparable to the splurge restaurants at the Kohala Coast resorts. Dinner offerings sometimes fall short, considering the prices, but the pupus (appetizers) and small plates are usually a good bet. If you're on a budget or just want lunch, Huggo's on the Rocks, next door, is a popular outdoor bar in the sand, and the burgers are pretty darn good, too.

We went to Huggos for dinner on our last night and thought is was B- food at A prices. The view is A+ however. For creative food at a less cost try Merrimans, also in the Kings shops.

While taking in the view of spectacular Kailua Bay, be sure to sample one of the house specialties -- steamed clams and flavorful garlic chicken earn particular nods. One of the more memorable dining experiences in downtown Kailua-Kona, Huggo’s has everything you’d want in a tropical sunset-lit dinner: incredible craft cocktails, fresh seafood dishes, and a view to die for. Huggo’s is a fantastic finale to your Kona dining lineup.
