Dinner offerings sometimes fall short, considering the prices, but the pupus (appetizers) and small plates are usually a good bet. If you're on a budget or just want lunch, Huggo's on the Rocks, next door, is a popular outdoor bar in the sand, and the burgers are pretty darn good, too.

We went to Huggos for dinner on our last night and thought is was B- food at A prices. The view is A+ however. For creative food at a less cost try Merrimans, also in the Kings shops.

My dining partner and I were invited to try Huggo’s, a restaurant which has been in business since 1969. What was once a regular haunt for local fisherman, is now a favorite place among locals and tourists to have fresh seafood and stiff drinks on the ocean front. And, don’t be surprised if the fish you ordered was caught just hours before.

We heard from several people that the Mai Tai served here is the best on the Island. Located just down the street from the Royal Kona Resort, this would be a good location to do some “compare and contrast” cocktail tasting. You really can’t beat the location — right on the water in downtown Kona. The menu features tasty entrees like seared and sesame crusted ahi and Molokai sweet potato ricotta gnocchi, and also includes a raw bar section. Vegetarian and gluten-free menus are available too.

For delicious small bites and tropical cocktails with a serene view, On the Rocks (also called Huggo’s) has a waterfront location that is hard to beat. Try the poke bowls and you won’t be disappointed!. They also offer live music and entertainment on a regular basis.

Huggo’s was another fave restaurant, especially if you are feeling fancy. The drinks and the views alone are worth it in my opinion!. It’s a more upscale restaurant which means it’s a bit pricier but I think it is so worth it!
