Reviews Summary

SALT is highly praised for its creative, Alaskan-influenced cuisine and excellent craft cocktails, set in a sleek, modern atmosphere that manages to be both upscale and cozy. Reviewers often highlight the phenomenal sablefish and attentive service. However, some guests have found dishes to be too sweet or fussy, and a few negative experiences with service consistency and lost items have been noted.

"The food, service and ambience were perfect. This was easily the best dining experience I’ve had in Juneau. I had a craving for a cheeseburger and it was amongst the most delicious I’ve ever had. The beer selection is solid. I ordered the cheesecake for dessert along with a wonderful Expressotini. Prices are on par with restaurants around of similar caliber in the lower 48. My server was perfectly attentive and very pleasant :)"

John Campbell

"Nice and cozy atmosphere—comfortable and pretty. We enjoyed the ambiance.

The service was good, but the waiter forgot to place our oyster order, so we never received them. At this point, most restaurants usually offer forgotten items as a complimentary gesture.

The host behaved decently but wasn’t particularly welcoming.

The cocktails were excellent—especially the France 75 and Pearfection. We asked for them to be made less sweet and really enjoyed the result.

The food was okay. The “Eggplant and Basil” dish somehow turned out to be pasta, and the "basil" consisted of just two leaves. Given the price, we expected a nice, freshly made basil sauce or something more special. Our waiter didn’t explain the menu as thoroughly as the one who was serving the neighboring table.

The Tortellini Reggiano was tasty, but the pasta itself was dry and seemed a bit old. The chicken, however, was good and flavorful."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A True Gem in Downtown Juneau!

Salt is hands down one of the best dining experiences in Juneau. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between modern and cozy, making it a great spot for date nights, special occasions, or just treating yourself to a really good meal. The space feels upscale but still very inviting and relaxed.

The food is consistently phenomenal — thoughtfully crafted, beautifully plated, and absolutely delicious. Their menu showcases fresh, high-quality local ingredients, with a great variety of seafood, meats, and vegetarian options. The seasonal specials are always worth trying, and their desserts are just as impressive as their entrées.

The bar is also a standout. They offer creative craft cocktails, a solid wine list, and local beers — it’s a great place to grab a drink even if you’re not staying for dinner.

Service is always warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. You can tell the staff takes pride in what they do and they genuinely care about creating a great dining experience.

Salt truly feels like a special part of Juneau’s food scene. If you’re visiting, this is a must-try. And if you’re local, you’ll want to come back again and again."

The 10 Best Bars In Juneau, Alaska

This bar and restaurant is one of a few fine dining locations in the area, but the atmosphere is still lively and great for grabbing a delicious craft cocktail or smooth glass of wine. Salt has one of the most extensive wine lists in the entire city of Juneau, and their bartenders serve up an array of specialty craft cocktails with unique interpretations of classic drinks. The sleek red, black, and white decor makes it elegant in a minimalist manner, and the steaks and seafood items solidify Salt as a luxury dining experience.

The result is a creative food scene of forager-chefs that can be credited back to the culinary rivalry between SALT’s Lionel Uddipa and In Bocca Al Lupo’s Beau Schooler, both of which have menus that regularly incorporate wild ingredients. You’ll taste citrusy notes of spruce tips in ice cream from Coppa, the gin at Amalga Distillery, and Alaskan Brewing Co.’s Winter Ale. In the fall, expect specials featuring wild mushrooms like golden Pacific chanterelles and chicken of the woods.

Restaurants in Juneau

Upscale American and Mediterranean fare is served at Salt, one of Juneau's nicest dining options, and though it's a bit pricey, the ambience and service make it worth the extra expense. It's also a good spot to stop for a cocktail if you can snag a spot at the tiny bar in the back. As with many Juneau restaurants, the service can be outstanding or maddening depending on the night; it's not recommended for those in a hurry.

Two years later, she spent half a million dollars to renovate and rebrand another eatery: Salt, an upscale creative seafood restaurant the likes of which Juneau had never seen. "When we started out, we had white linen tablecloths," she says. "That was considered the fancy place to have dinner. And in a town of 30,000 people, I don't want them to come out once a year." Her solution was to make the restaurant more welcoming and modern: In addition to remodeling, she added an excellent craft cocktail program and began serving sophisticated dishes without pretension.

Where to Eat in Juneau: 15 Fantastic Restaurants Recommended by Alaskans

If your travel plans will bring you to Juneau at the same time as you’re celebrating a special occasion, there’s one place I recommend: SALT. This steak and seafood restaurant uses fresh Alaskan ingredients to make incredible dishes in a beautiful setting; it’s really the best place to raise a glass to whatever milestone you’re marking. I’ve been to SALT twice; on our most recent visit, Mr. V and I enjoyed crab bisque, their crab cake, and the ginger Alaskan salmon with coconut broth (all pictured above).

As you might've guessed from the name, its menu is mostly devoted to locally caught Alaskan crab, so if you're hoping to sample a wider selection of local seafood and produce, head to SALT. Both the atmosphere and dishes here are upscale (think filet mignon, Alaskan halibut, scallop pasta), something recent diners appreciated. The Rookery Café is another Juneau eatery that prides itself on using local ingredients with a menu that changes three to four times each week.
