Jackson Drug, a revamped classic soda shop, feels like stepping into a time machine. The restaurant first opened on the Square in 1919, moving locations in 1939 to where it sits today. When Jackson Drug reopened in 2018, the restoration revived the colorful tilework lining the floor and bar, the ‘50s diner swivel stools, and the Art Deco ceiling tiles.

On the corner of Deloney and Cache, you’ll pass Jackson Drug — a stone building built by Bruce Porter in 1937 using stone from Idaho — on your way to the east side of the square (Deloney and Center Street). This side of the square is defined by the “The Club- house,” which was built in 1895 and used as the community’s first gathering spot. The building was remodeled in 1897 and again in 1912 when a second story was added, providing more space for meetings, dances, and classes.

After walking around the area in the morning, it’s nice to treat yourself to an old-fashioned malt for lunch, which is what we did in Jackson Drug, a great restaurant!. It’s famous to both tourists and locals, and you’ll know why once you get a taste of their ice cream and malts. I also loved their burger.

We almost didn’t fit Jackson Drug in and I’m so glad we did. We ate here for lunch and had the loaded cheese fries (I would have been thrilled even with just the homemade cheese sauce) and side garden salads (with homemade ranch). Dave also had a cup of the chili and said it was great.

There is no better place to get ice cream than Jackson Drug, which handmakes its creamy confections in-house with dairy from Idaho Falls. A scoop of the huckleberry is a must-order (if Wyoming had a state fruit, it would be the huckleberry which grows wild from June through August).

When I was there we stayed in Teton Village (the ski resort near Jackson Hole) for a few nights and it was wonderful to have a hot tub to come back to and a full restaurant. Make sure to note that Teton Village does close for shoulder season the 26th of October- 21st of November.

We can to Jackson’s twice while on vacation and loved it both times!. The smash burger is delicious and the loaded tots and fries are so yummy!. Our twins have celiac and could have homemade fried chicken tenders and fries safely which is a huge treat.

As kids, we loved sitting at the counter with our grandparents at the Jackson Drug Store. After decades in business, it sadly left town for a little while. However, it revamped and reopened so it is once again serving up burgers, fries, and shakes!.
